“Would it have gone against his contract if he’d told Scarlet?” Gayle lifted her glass and took a long sip of her signature cosmo.

“Pillow talk wouldn’t count.” Lottie frowned. “Would it?”

“Speaking of pillow talk...” Jo let that hang, but her sharp focus shifted from the women around the table, straight to Bridget. “Got something to share, Bridg?”

Bridget set her wine on the table and dropped her purse on a chair before settling into the last open seat. “Nope.”

Jo’s dark eyes narrowed. “Oh my God. He’s bad in bed, isn’t he?”

“Jo—” Bridget started, but Jo didn’t give her a chance.

“This is why he doesn’t bring anyone home, and he’s never with the same woman twice.” Her brown hair brushed her shoulders as she shook her head.

“He’s one of those all about himself athletes?” Gayle asked. “I never would have pegged him that way.”

“Makes sense to me. Most pitchers can’t actually finish a game.” Sonya laughed at her own bad joke.

“Maybe we should sit him down. Between the five of us, I’m sure we can fix him. I can come up with some ideas.” Lottie tapped her long, bright blue nails against her lips. “Bridg, can you tell us where he went wrong?”

“I think you’ll have to do it without me. My brother’s super uptight. He refuses to talk about his sex life with me.” Jo frowned, as if Ryan was the ridiculous one in that scenario. “I can’t see him changing his mind about that even if it’s to give Bridg better orgasms.”

“Enough. Stop it.” Bridget’s face heated. “He’s not bad.”

All four women leaned in, waiting.

“He doesn’t need pointers. He knows exactly what he’s doing.” Bridget sighed at the elation on each of her friends’ faces. “It was great, and that’s all I’m going to say.”

Jo shrieked. “I get dibs on the maid of honor at the wedding.”

Oh God.

“And we’ll get to spend holidays together!” Jo was practically dancing in her seat.

“Slow your roll, girl,” Bridget assured. “First, we already spend most holidays together.”

Jo rolled her eyes. “Semantics. You know what I meant.”

“Second—” Bridget snapped—just a little—hoping Jo would shut up for one minute. “It was a funone-timething. No weddings, no future. Just part of my new mantra of living life for me.”

Lottie flipped her blond hair back. “And he knows that?”

Bridget nodded. When he’d given her options last night, she’d chosen one night; good orgasm. And he was on board.

“And he didn’t call or text or anything today?” Gayle asked.

“I don’t think so.” Bridget shrugged.

“Like she would know.” Jo shook her head. “Have you looked at your phone today? Just because we all stopped texting you years ago doesn’t mean my poor brother didn’t try.”

Jo grabbed Bridget’s purse and dug through it until she found her phone. She hit the home button, and her face went from annoyed to full onI told you sosmirk.

“He’s not your crappy asshole ex-husband. You have to start expecting more of people.” Jo dropped the phone on the table, and with a light push, sent it flying over. Bridget caught it, and in the second the words registered, her heart skipped.

She hadn’t thought it was more than a one-night thing, but hehadtexted.

Four times.
