“Are any of the lower staff aware of this?” he asked.

“Just you,” I replied. “Do you think I should tell them?”

“Well, amnesia is a serious issue, and it may affect his work here,” he said.

“I don’t think he will be working here once this is over,” I informed him. “Once he takes over his company, there wouldn’t be anything tying him to the Pack.”

“Except one person,” he said. “You.”

I could feel my cheeks heat up at the remark.

“Well, I guess so,” I replied.

“Are his memories of the present okay?” he asked. “Some cases have people forgetting the new memories.”

“Well, he did mention something about his memories clashing,” I replied. “But he has a drug for that. I think he’ll be fine.”

“Well, if that’s what you say,” he shrugged. “I’ll be out. We have deadlines to beat, so try to stay sharp okay?”

“Yes, sir,” I saluted. He shook his head and left the office.

I picked up my phone and tried dialing Nick, but I couldn’t get a hold of him.

Not wanting to be distracted, I tossed the phone into my drawer and tried to focus on the matters at hand.

There was a folder I needed. Rather than calling Allison, I stretched my legs and got it myself.

I got to the front desk, and Allison was clicking away on her system.

“Financial reports for the month?” she asked without looking away from the system.

“Yes, that,” I replied.

She pointed to a folder on her table. I picked it up and thanked her. I was about to leave when I heard the door open.

Nick came in. There was a band-aid on his head.

“Hey, I’m back,” he said.

“What the––” Allison said.

I dropped the folder and ran to him, “What happened?”

I touched the band-aid, and he winced.

“It still hurts,” he said. “I ran into a little trouble on my way back.”

“Didn’t you meet with Aisha and Matilda?” I asked.

“I met with Matilda but not Aisha,” he replied.

“What, why?” I asked.

“Pardon me, boss, maybe you could interrogate the injured suspectinyour office,” Allison said as she picked up the folder.

I remembered that he had an injury, “I’m sorry, babe, let’s go to my office.”

“Okay, thanks Allison,” he said.
