“Look, Blake, I do not care what you did to your brother, but all I know is that this is the perfect opportunity,” she said. “The perfect opportunity to give my daughter the perfect romance story ever.”
“I am lost,” I admitted. I couldn’t wrap my head around the information she was trying to pass across to me.
“Remember I told you that I enjoyed having two men fight over me?” she asked. “Let’s say I want you and your brother to do the same for my daughter.”
“I see, so that’s what you meant,” I crossed my arms and let out a sigh. “Why do you want that, though?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” she asked. “One brother who truly loves her, and another who wants her for the future of his company. No matter how you paint it, it’s absolutely beautiful.”
It was official that this woman was a little loose in the head.
“I see; as wonderful as the plan sounds, wouldn’t it be obvious that she would choose Nick?” I asked.
“Surprisingly, that may not be the case,” she smiled.
“What is then?”
“Don’t you see it?” she asked, then raised two fingers, “You two are identical twins.” She dropped one finger. “My daughter has only been with one of you.”
“So you’re saying I should impersonate Nick?” I raised a brow. “That’s brilliant.”
“Of course it is; I am quite the schemer,” she said proudly.
“But the only problem is, Nick is currently by her side,” I informed her. “And assuming he has recovered his memories, that means he probably would have told her about me.”
“Well, that is a problem,” she sighed, then lit up. “But you don’t have to worry about that.”
“Why is that?” I asked.
“Look, he will obviously be coming to you to claim his place,” she said. “You use that chance to slip back and take his place.”
“What makes you so sure he would?” I raised a brow. “My brother is the kind of man who would want to keep her by his side to protect her.”
“He may be like that, but my daughter is the kind of stubborn gal who thinks she’s strong enough to stand her ground,” she said. “Anyway, I want you to be ready the moment he thinks about leaving Myrtle Beach.”
“How would I know about his movements?” I asked. “The person who I had hired to watch over him does not seem to want anything to do with this.”
That’s right. I should probably get rid of Hunter soon. Who knows what he will tell Nick?
“If you’re thinking about getting rid of whoever your former informant was, I’d advise that you leave him or her alive,” she said.
“You wouldn’t happen to be a mind reader, would you?” I was impressed by how she was able to deduce my action.
“Why, I’m technically related to Sherlock Holmes,” she said smugly. “These things are elementary, my dear Blake.”
“So why shouldn’t I get rid of him?”
“Surely you can’t be that dumb?” she shook her head negatively with a sigh for added effect.
So annoying. But I need her if I intend to keep this company.
“I’m sorry, I am quite slow in matters like this,” I replied. “Would you be as kind as to explain how his being alive would benefit my plans?”
“Your plans?” she scoffed. “Anyway, the former informant would want to help Nick out, right?”
“Yes?”
“Yourinformantwould be the lure that leads himawayfrom her side,” she said.
