I held my breath for a second, hoping he would not wake up, and I let it out with relief as I scrambled around the room, trying to find my belongings in the quasi darkness.

I put my bra on and pulled up my dress before padding around the lush carpet, trying to locate my thong.

I cursed inwardly—how was I supposed to find a stupid tiny piece of fabric with such poor lighting? That would have never happened with my usual granny panties.

I gave up my search after a few minutes because I didn’t want to be here when he woke up, looking like a stage five clinger. He was supposed to wake up early to go to the airport.

Ah, fuck it. I’d be doing my walk of shame pantyless.

I grabbed my stilettos and my clutch from the console at the entrance and was grateful to find a black cab waiting at the taxi station in front of the hotel. I didn’t expect any at five am.

He grinned when I sat at the back, clearly knowing I was escaping a hotel room in the midst of a night of unbridled passion, and again I didn’t seem to care.

“Where to?”

“Hammersmith.”

Chapter 2

Ava

Igroanedas‘I Will Survive’ started for the third time in a row.

Please make it stop!I begged silently. I patted around my nightstand to find my phone until my hand finally connected with the cool, smooth surface.

I kept my eyes closed as I swiped my thumb at what I hoped was the bottom of the screen.

“Ethan, you had better be dying, I swear,” I mumbled with my face still pressed against my down pillow.

“Morning, lovey, sunshine, bunny girl.”

I grunted at the cheeriness of his voice. I pulled the phone off my ear and blinked a few times to look at the time on the phone.

I put it back on my ear with a sigh. “Dude, it’s 8:30.”

“You’re usually way up by then.”

“Uh-huh.” I was also usually in bed by 10. Today it had been 6:30 by the time I got home, took a shower and got ready for bed. “I went to bed two hours ago.”

“Ooooohhh, someone did listen to the doctor’s orders and had fun, then. I want to know everything!”

I should have known better than to expect any consideration—now he had a story and he would not let go until he knew everything.

“What if I bring you a giant vanilla latte and a muffin?”

“What kind?”

“Banana with chocolate chips?”

I was half-awake already. “Fine.” I waited a few seconds and realized why he was not hanging up. “You’re here already, aren’t you?”

“What do you think?”

I rolled my eyes and sat up on the bed with a grunt. “Fine, let yourself in.”

I reluctantly left the warmth of my bed and walked into the main part of my small one-bedroom flat, rubbing my eyes.

“Why did you bother calling?” I huffed, sitting at the tiny round table I’d placed against the window.
