Moving Larissa as not to wake her, I pull my shorts on and grab a washcloth to clean her up, move her body into the bed and under the covers. I wanted to come inside her so badly, but, with everything going on and wanting her so badly, I didn’t even ask her if she made plans for birth control or not.
I watch as she rests peacefully for a few moments before I go and grab our little guy. He’ll be wanting to eat before too long. When I was in the fridge earlier, I saw that Larissa had packages of breast milk ready to warm and put in a bottle. I plan on doing just that when Elijah wakes up.
Going to the pack and play I look down at him, his eyes are wide awake, he looks so much like me, from the color of my skin to the same shade of hair color. He has some of Larissa in him, mainly his mouth.
“Hey, buddy. It’s me and you for a little bit. Mommy needs her rest,” I tell him as I pick him up, taking a seat on the couch, getting us both comfortable until he starts rooting for Larissa or a bottle, and turn the television on.
I settle on a baseball game and hang out with our little man. When Eli starts squirming around, we go to the kitchen and I heat up his bottle after dumping the breastmilk in and heating it up. We head back to the couch where he eats and once he’s done, I burp him and lay back on the couch. He’s on my chest fast asleep. I should probably get up and move to the bedroom with Eli, yet I can’t. It’s been too long since I’ve held him while he’s slept. With that last thought, my eyes get heavy and I fall asleep.
Chapter Twenty
Larissa
I wake up cold and search for Jake. His side of the bed is empty, he’s not in the room. I go to the dresser and fish out a shirt of Jake’s and a pair of panties. I walk out to the living room and stop in my tracks. The two men that own my heart are sleeping. The lines in Jake’s face are gone and our precious baby boy is wrapped in his father’s arms. I go and grab my phone to snap a picture, making sure the flash is off. I take the picture and then go towards them.
Jake’s couch may look nice, but it isn’t the most comfortable. I know because I’ve fallen asleep on it a couple of times in the past week.
“Jake, honey.” I speak in a hushed tone so as not to jar both of them awake.
His eyes slowly open and I can see the lines around his face, as he wakes up with a smile. “We must have fallen asleep.”
“You did, want to come to bed?” I ask.
“Yeah, this couch is hell on my back. I don’t know what I was thinking when I bought it,” he says, as he gets up easily and holding onto Eli without it looking like any work at all.
“My sentiments exactly. I think the couch should stay here when we move,” I tell him honestly.
“That’s something we’ll be doing tomorrow,” Jake states.
“What? Couch shopping?” I question.
“No, well, maybe. Depends on how fast we can find a house.” I smile as he says that. I can’t wait to create a home with him.
“You have yourself a date,” I say with a wink, as we walk into the bedroom together.
“Best moment of my life was getting that call and finding you pregnant in the lobby, it’s only getting better, every single day. The next one after that was the birth of Eli and believe me, there’s going to be a fuck of a lotta great memories we still haven’t made yet,” he tells me.
“I’m ready to make those with you,” I say, looking into his eyes. We may not have spoken those three words, but we both show each other in everything we do.
“Come on, baby. Let’s get us all into bed. Elijah will be up before we know it and we have plans,” he replies.
I follow his lead and slide into bed as he settles Eli into the bassinet his mom bought for us. It’s beautiful and has a classic design. One that can be used for a boy or a girl, Katrina said. I know what she was getting at. I didn’t correct her or tell her what plans Jake and I have, mainly because we haven’t discussed them, but I think along with house hunting we’ll be doing, a long discussion may be necessary, too.
Chapter Twenty-One
Jake
The ring I bought Larissa out in California is burning a hole in my damned pocket. I wanted my mom to come with me, but she and Mack had plans, plus she was helping Larissa. That was more important, so I Face Timed her once I found the perfect one. She cried when she saw it. It really is perfect for her.
