“Not funny,” she growls. “Not funny.”
I elbow her. “It’s a little funny.”
We chase the animals until we reachBake Me Happy. The bakery Cedar’s brother owns. Pan is standing outside the door bleating at it while Diva is on the other side staring at the goat. I swear she’s smirking.
Gabrielle attaches a leash to Pan while I enter the bakery to retrieve my dog who can apparently open doors now.
“This is the cutest dog ever!” Bryan declares.
Bryan works at the bakery with Rowan. He’s also the most over the top person who lives in Winter Falls, which is saying at lot. This is Winter Falls after all.
He picks Diva up and cuddles her close. “I bet you would look adorable in a pink sweater.”
Diva yips as if she agrees with Bryan.
I hold out my arms. “Give her back before she’s completely spoiled.”
Cedar snorts behind me. “Her name is Diva. She’s already spoiled.”
I snatch my dog from Bryan and rub my nose against her snout. “I don’t spoil you, do I little girl?”
He laughs as he throws an arm over my shoulders. “I don’t suppose you have any of those blondie brownies?”
Bryan sighs as he looks Cedar up and down. “You can’t possibly eat brownies and look the way you do.”
Rowan steps through the kitchen to the bakery. “I look better than him and I’m a baker.”
Bryan moans. “I’ve had this dream before, but you were both naked and covered in chocolate ganache.”
While Cedar chuckles, Rowan growls. Bryan pats his arm. “Don’t worry. Your manhood is well represented if you know what I mean.”
“I don’t want to know.”
“I do!” Ashlyn shouts as she enters the bakery with Patience strapped to her chest.
“It starts with us in the bakery—”
Rowan shoves a hand in Bryan’s face to cut him off.
Bryan winks at Ashlyn. “I’ll tell you later.”
“Don’t forget about me,” I chime in. A dream about Cedar naked and covered in chocolate? Yes, please!
“What’s everyone doing hiding out inBake Me Happy?” Ashlyn asks. I don’t have a chance to answer before she notices Diva. “Holy hearing aids! Your dog is the cutest thing in the world. Can I hold her?”
I nod toward the baby on her chest. “I think your ride is limited to one baby or dog at a time.”
“I’ll trade you.”
She unwraps the thingamabob keeping Patience glued to her, but before she has the chance to hand me the baby, Rowan sweeps in and steals her away.
“Not my fault. I still have full rights to cuddle your puppy.”
I giggle as I hand her Diva. “This town is crazy.”
“And totally up your alley, right?” She winks.
I don’t deny it. Winter Falls is totally up my alley. I glance over at Cedar from beneath my eyelashes. He’s totally up my alley, too. Too bad I can’t keep him.
