“No.” She checks the clock. “I need to get back to work. The after-work rush will arrive soon, and we’re not done stocking the shelves.”

“I’ll see you later.”

“Not if I see you first,” she mutters.

I nearly collide with Lennon when I exit the office. He frowns at me. I can’t blame him. I’m disappointed in me, too.

I never thought not acknowledging Rowan as my brother would lead to the end of a friendship with a woman with whom I want more than friendship. Friends with benefits is fun, but I want more. I nearly trip on my own two feet when I realize how serious I am about Cassandra.

I haven’t been serious about a woman since high school. I need to figure out a way to make my princess forgive me. There has to be a way.

Chapter 15

Always let someone sweat before forgiving him ~ Cassie’s rules for living a fun life

Isink down into the chair with Diva in my arms once Cedar leaves. I had to pick her up and hold her before I did something incredibly stupid such as grab hold of Cedar and never let him go. He’s a liar. And I won’t forget it.

“You disappoint me.”

At Lennon’s words, I jump in my chair. I didn’t realize he was in the office. I get to my feet and place Diva in her dog bed.

“I’m sorry. I should be helping you stock the shelves.”

“I don’t give a damn about the stock.”

My brow wrinkles. “Then, what are you talking about?”

“You and Cedar.”

“There is no me and Cedar.”

“Why the hell not?”

I narrow my eyes at him. “Are you on the matchmaking committee?”

“Do I resemble an old lady to you?”

I don’t dare answer his question. Not when there’s a chance one of the real gossip gals is in the bar. I swear they have listeningdevices planted all over town. How else do they know everyone’s secrets?

Usually, I admire sneaky women and jump into join the fun. But how can I join in when I’m the one being targeted?

“You’re off tonight.”

“What? It’s Thursday. It’s one of the busiest nights of the week.”

“And I managed fine before without you.”

“Except you can’t pick up a tourist and go home with her if I’m not here.”

“If she’s worth it, she’ll wait until closing.”

Notice he didn’t deny he’s a horndog. He can’t. I’ve watched him pick up too many tourists with a crook of his finger.

“Now, get your ass out of here and go apologize to Cedar.”

“Apologize to Cedar? He’s the one who owes me an apology.”

Although, he did say he was sorry. But saying the words is not enough in my book. I need to know the reason he lied. And it better be a good one.
