“Fuck, yes. Axle, yesss…” Natalie cried, her body erupting into a powerful orgasm that shook her to her core.

As her body spasmed, Axle held her firmly as he came too, emptying himself into her as his body jerked from waves of pleasure.

They both stayed by the wall, Axle still holding her against it as they recovered from their orgasms. It was the first time she had seen him out of breath, and it was quite surprising. Axle then lifted her off her feet and placed her down on the bed before getting in beside her.

“Are you okay?” he asked, running a hand through his hair as he adjusted a pillow for her.

“Yeah,” she replied, her body still buzzing from what had just happened. “I’m fine, you?”

“Never better,” Axle replied with a smile, reaching across and pulling her in.

For a moment, Natalie wondered if they would be safe like that, with the demons running around, trying to hurt her. But as she looked through the window, she noticed a weird glow in the sky outside. It only appeared when she looked directly at it, but when she looked away it was gone. At first she thought it was light reflecting off of something.

But then she realized that it was magic. She looked around, following the window, and saw that the glow surrounded the house. The sorcerer man had put up something that would keep them safe while they were in the house, so it was going to be fine for them to fall asleep. Natalie needed the sleep, she hadn’t been able to sleep much since the first night.

She shut her eyes and allowed herself to begin to drift off, falling asleep almost instantly, with a smile on her face. It was the best sex she had ever had, and it had been with a human dragon. She chuckled silently right as she fell asleep.

Natalie woke up the next morning with a jolt, realizing that she knew exactly where the other bracelet was. Axle was in the bathroom, which was her one time to go get it.

If he came along with her, she would have to do a lot of explaining, and she was certain that she wasn’t ready to tell anyone who he was, and why she hadn’t come to work for the last two days. Instead, she would get it herself, and hurry back to the house before he would even know she had left.

She spotted a speaker unit, and began fiddling with it until she got the music playing. Once it was on, she turned the volume to full blast, knowing it would mess with Axle’s hearing. Taking the chance, she ran out the back door and made her way to the office to get the other bracelet.

Chapter 11 - Axle

Axle frowned at the loud music, wondering why she would turn it on so loudly. He hadn’t explicitly told her, but the louder the sound, the more it hurt his delicate ears.

He put his hands over his ears and quickly rushed out, turning the unit to the lowest volume before looking around to see that the room was empty. She had turned it on and didn’t even stay to listen.

He wanted to speak, but then he noticed something was off. He couldn’t hear her heartbeat. Axle froze for a moment, listening intently, as his ears were still ringing from the loud music. But as he focused, he realized that she was not in the building anymore. He sniffed the air, picking up on her scent as he got dressed and rushed out of the house, sniffing as he tried to track her.

He had no idea where she could have gone, or why. Before he could take another step, something else occurred to him. Had she left because of what had happened between them?

He felt a chill run down his spine. Sex with her had been amazing. He had been fighting off his own emotions, pretending as though they didn’t exist. But from the first day he saw her, bringing her home and laying her on the bed, Axle had felt something.

When he had realized that she was his mate, that was when things had truly changed. No matter how much he had tried to deny it, it was right in his face. She had felt it too, the inexplicable connection was there. But still, just because they were fated mates didn’t mean they would be together. Mates could die, or just decide not to be with each other, and Axle had even known a few dragons who had no choice and couldn’t be with their mates.

If Natalie regretted what had happened, she would be looking to get as far away from him as possible. As much as it made him sad, getting away from him wasn’t a very smart move. It would only make her easier prey for Kanai and his forces. He had to find her and get the bracelet off of her first.

So at least she would no longer be in danger, and then she could live the rest of her life as she pleased. Axle frowned as he got on his motorcycle, knowing that it was only fair for the one woman he was actually interested in to leave because she didn’t feel the same. He was a dragon, and she was a human. It only made sense that she wouldn’t want that for herself.

His phone rang just before he could start the vehicle, and he picked up the call by tapping on the earphone. “Bingwen?”

“Where is she?”

“How did you…”

“I set up a barrier to keep demons out and keep an eye on you two. You were supposed to stay put till I got back, why aren’t you staying put?” Bingwen asked, the anger evident in his voice. “I can’t protect either of you when you’re outside the portal. Do you have any idea where she could be?”

“I want to believe she’s at her office. Other than that, I haven’t seen her go anywhere else,” Axle replied, and then sighed. “Oh, she went to the library, but I don’t know if she would be heading back there. Best bet is the office and then the library. If she’s at neither, we’ll have to resort to something else.”

“Did you bother getting her phone number?” Bingwen asked scornfully.

Axle sighed, knowing he hadn’t. There hadn’t been a chance for him to do it. “No.”

“Just meet me out by the city limits. We need to talk, so we can head in together.”

Axle ended the call as he considered it. He was a lot closer to Bingwen than he was to Natalie. If she had gone into the city, it would take at least twice the time it would have to pick up Bingwen.
