The man released his throat. “Outside. I’ll join you when I’m done.”
A shudder coursed through Tommy’s body as he took slow steps across the room.
The man ironed out his jacket, adjusted the button, and looked at Declan. “Get your girl, grab your drinks, and meet me in the office.”
Declan dipped his head in a cordial nod. “Thank you, Abe.”
The man made a noise in his throat, not so much as glancing my way as Declan started across the room toward me. He reached out for my hand, but I grabbed my drink instead. Just as Abe walked through the cased opening and two maids walked in in his place, Declan whispered, “Are you okay?”
“No.” My jaw clenched, and my hand balled to a fist at my side. “I’m not okay.”
“Did you get hur—”
“Physically, I’m fine.” I lifted my drink to my lips and chugged until only drops remained. “Lead the way to this office.”
* * *
The office was as exquisite as the rest of the house had been. Expensive leather chairs, gorgeous, mahogany stained desk that matched the trim, and perfect marble floors.
But all I could think as Abe settled into his seat was,Pig.
Disgusting fucking pig.
Somethingthat doesn’t belong to you.
She is his.
Foul, appalling pig.
I didn’t think much different of Declan beside me either.
He hadn’t disagreed. He’d said it himself a moment prior.
I was not his fucking territory. I was not an object. I belonged tono one.
“No, this doesn’t smell familiar.” Abe’s nose was in the plastic bag, breathing in long whiffs. “I do recognize the perfume, but notherscent.”
“Don’t you meanitsscent?” I muttered under my breath.
Declan’s eyes shot to mine, expression telling me to shut the fuck up.
Abe glanced, but only looked back down at the bag. As though I was some little spider in the corner. Annoying, but not worth his time.
“Do you have another sample, or is this your only one, Declan?” he asked.
Declan looked at me.
“I have—”
“I didn’t ask you to speak,” the man snapped. “I addressed your mate.”
My hands clenched so tight that my nails left blood dripping down my palm.
Declan’s eyes were pleading. Like he was begging me not to fuck up his relationship with his god on the other end of the desk.
I wanted to cast a spell that’d dissolve that filthy tongue from Abe’s mouth, but I had the feeling if I tried,I’dbe the one taken out back.
I gave Declan a short nod.
