“Is it because you want to finish up where we left off the other night, when the alarm interrupted our sexy time?”
He gave me a dour look. “Can’t a guy just want to cuddle without getting interrogated? Damn.”
I gave him a kiss on the forehead. “Taylor wanted to cuddle with me too. I turned him down.”
Jordan grinned up at me. “Good. The bed’s not big enough for three.”
“I turned him down because I didn’t want the baby to disturb him.”
“I’m a deep sleeper. I slept through the Loma Prieta earthquake in eighty-nine.”
I gave a start. “Wait a minute. You weren’t even alive then!”
“No, I wasn’t,” he admitted. “But if I was? I totally would have slept through the whole thing.”
I went through my bedtime routine and then crawled in bed with Jordan. He rolled onto his back, and I curled up against his body and rested my head in the crook of his arm.
“Good date?” he murmured.
“It was,” I replied simply.
“Must not have beenthatgood. Taylor didn’t get lucky.”
I tried to laugh at the joke, but it came out awkwardly. Jordan noticed, too.
“What?” he asked. “Did you two do it in the bathroom at the restaurant or something?”
I wasn’t sure what to say. Here was another complication of being shared: did we talk about what happened with the other guys? Or was I supposed to pretend like wedidn’thave sex?
But it had been a truthful kind of night—I had told Taylor that I didn’t have any experience with babies previously, and Taylor told me that he was a virgin. So I decided to keep the theme.
“We did it in the car,” I said slowly. “In the driveway.”
I felt him twist his head to look down at me. “You serious, Clara?”
I nodded against his chest.
He barked a laugh. “In the car? Like a couple of high schoolers parked at make-out point?”
“Shut up!” I whispered. “You’ll wake Baby Anthony!”
“You could have come inside,” he said.
“And let everyone hear what we’re doing? No thank you.”
“It’s not like we don’t know. Hell, sharing you wasouridea.”
“That doesn’t mean we can’t have privacy,” I replied. “Especially for Taylor’s first time.”
Jordan tensed. “Wait, what?”
I groaned. “Shit. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.”
“Taylor is a virgin?”
“Was.Past tense.”
Jordan grunted. “Wouldn’t have guessed that.”
