I walked over to her on the couch, took her hand, and lifted her up from it. My arm wrapped around her back, tugging slightly until our bodies met.
“For every single one of your needs to be met, bunny.” I looked straight into her emerald eyes.
“I don’t want to be a mother, Weston. You’re asking me for the one thing I can’t give you.”
The pain in her voice made me feel like the world’s biggest asshole for even considering it.
“I know.” I sighed. “Well then, maybe…maybe we can just say you’re pregnant. Get hitched. Stick it out for the next three months. Once I complete my end of the deal, we’ll just say something happened and go our separate ways.”
She dropped her head onto my chest. “This is lunacy.”
She wasn’t saying no, though.
“What about Lucy? Would we tell her?” Quinn pressed. “She’s going to be so excited over nothing. I can’t do that to her.”
She was right. Lucy would never forgive us if she were to find out.
“And my mama? Oh, my goodness, she would lose it. She’s way too fragile for all this.”
I could see her talking herself out of the proposition. Her head swayed.
“Listen, we can tell Lucy, and we can tell Muriel. But other than that, nobody outside my security detail can know.”
She shook her head fervently and freed herself from my grip, taking a few steps back.
“I can’t believe I’m even considering this,” she said, disgusted.
“It’s three months, Quinn. Just think of it as another job.”
“Is that what this is to you?”
“Yes.” I lied. I wanted to put a baby in her and claim her as mine for all the Cohen’s in the world to know she was taken.
Quinn closed her eyes and threw her head back.
“I better not go to hell for this,” she whispered to herself.
“So…is that a yes?”
She opened her eyes, breathed in deeply and walked over to me.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this. But, it’s a yes.”
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding in.
“Under one condition,” she added.
“Name it.”
“No sex. We can show some PDA as needed. But sex with you complicates things. I’m not getting attached again, Weston. This is temporary.”
I must’ve dropped my jaw because she used her finger to push it back up and close my mouth.
“I’m dead serious,” she said.
“Fine. No sex,” I agreed, already trying to figure out how to break this one rule. “Happy?”
“Oh, ecstatic.” She rolled her eyes and straightened out her dress. A glimpse of her breasts teased me.
