“The hooking up for a hot night kind,” she said.

“Well okay, I can be that if you want.”

“No. I want you...” she trailed off, trying to think of what she wanted from him.Everything.But at the same time, she wasn’t sure how that would work or if she’d even be able to be intimate with him.

He gave her a rakish smile. “I want you too, but I suspect that’s not what you meant.”

“It is,” she said. “I just don’t know.”

“You want intimacy,” he said.

“I do. I’m pretty sure you don’t,” she said.

“I called you at midnight, lady. Fuck, that seems intimate to me.”

“Sorry. It’s easier for me to deflect than admit what I want from you.”

“I know,” he said. “So about my weekend.”

“With me cutting veggies in your kitchen?”

“Or something else.”

“Like what?”

He thought it over for a few minutes. “You could come to the city and I’ll show you around my neighborhood and then I’ll cook you dinner.”

“Okay. I can take the train in,” she said.

“I can send a car for you.”

“No thanks. Where do you live?”

“On Bleecker in an old brownstone mansion that was my parents’. It takes up half the block.” He hesitated, a wistful note in his voice. “I’m lucky it stayed in my mother’s family. I’ll text you the address.”

“Nola told me that your parents were killed in a plane crash. That sounded so awful.”

“Nola Weston?”

“Yes. Do you remember her from school?” she asked him. This weekend agreement was dangerous because he was making her think of him in a way that was safe. It was okay to kiss him and let him dominate her dreams, but in reality, she knew he’d dominate her life. And she was on her way to something bigger.

“Not really, but she was friends with Rory,” he said. “I don’t have any friends in Gilbert Corners.”

“You do now,” she said.

“You?”

“Unless you don’t like me.”

“I’m calling you at midnight... I think I like you.”

She wrinkled her nose at him. “Sounds like you’re not sure.”

“Lady, if you were here with me, you’d know how much Ilikeyou.”

There was a note of raw desire in his voice that sent heat down her entire body, her breasts felt fuller and her niples hardened. She shifted her legs under the sheets and wished she and Conrad were in the same room. She had enjoyed kissing him. He’d stirred to life desires that she’d told herself she didn’t miss, and until this moment she’d almost believed that lie.

But there was no way she could deny that she wanted Conrad.
