“Stop! Please! I’m not going to be able to sit for days!”

“That’s the point.” He spanked me one last time. “And that’s for denying what’s mine, you, right in front of him.”

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” I begged for mercy.

Of course, the bastard chuckled.

It took everything inside me not to tell him off, but I knew it wouldn’t be in my best interest. Having to go against everything I wanted to do to him, I played nice.

In another quick movement, my legs were wrapped around his waist as he held me up against the same wall.

I hissed, feeling his rough grip on my butt.

“You’re okay.”

I gave him a death stare, biting my tongue from saying something I’d regret.

“Here. I’ll make it better.” He started massaging my sore bottom. “When you act like a child. I’m going to treat you like one. Now be my good girl and apologize for denying me.”

“Before you go all daddy Dom on me again,” I sassed, unable to help myself. “I didn’t know I was denying you.”

Adrian

I didn’t waver. “Now you know. Don’t do it again.”

I wasn’t expecting to see her at the library of all places. With fucking Tom devouring her body with his eyes. For the first time in my life, jealousy washed over me as my feet were stomping in their direction. It felt like I was being pulled by twine and she was jerking the rope to her.

By the time I was over to them, I heard Tom disrespect her. On pure impulse, I reacted. The son of a bitch had it coming.

“You’re an asshole.”

“Never claimed to be anything else.”

“Does that mean you’re my boyfriend?”

Her gaze widened, making those beautiful hazel eyes of hers shine bright as they tore into mine. I reached for the side of her face with my knuckles caressing her cheek.

“Why would you think otherwise?”

“You don’t kiss me. We don’t…”

“You think I don’t want to fuck you, Cherry? You don’t think I’d love to have your mouth wrapped around my cock? Or your pussy sitting my face?”

“Jesus…” she teased. “I’d settle for making out.”

“You don’t want me filling you up with my come, Paige?”

“Oh my God! How do you go from zero to a hundred?”

“I’ve been trying to be a gentleman. I respect you. Not only as my brother’s best friend, but as my girl too.”

“Your girl?”

With my thumb, I rubbed her bottom lip for a few seconds, and she stirred beneath my touch.

“You’re telling me you haven’t been with another woman this entire time?”

“Don’t ask questions you already know the answer to.”

“Maybe I need to hear you say the words.”

“I’ll tell you after I kiss you.”

And damn did I devour her.

Her scent.

Her taste.

It was mine.

She was all mine.

Our moment was cut far too short. The sound of the door opening sprang us into action. I quickly dropped her to her feet, and she hauled ass to my bedroom. I was thankful for the carpet.

I grabbed the letterman jacket, chucking it in the closet, making a mental note to throw it away.

“Hey,” Cade greeted, walking in. He didn’t notice a thing with Hayley walking in behind him.

I nodded at them, walking toward my room, trying to play it off like he didn’t just catch us with my tongue down her throat. This may have been the first time he caught us in the act, but it wouldn’t be the last.

If anything…

It was only the beginning.

Twenty-Two

Now

“Is someone coming for dinner?” I questioned, watching Miss April set Adrian’s dining room table with four place settings.

She glanced up at me. “Mr. Drake didn’t tell you he’s having company over tonight?”

“No, he didn’t.”

The last three days flew by after the altercation in Adrian’s office. Since we walked through the doors of his penthouse later that night, we hadn’t left. I was going stir crazy behind these walls. I wasn’t used to staying put in one place for long. Not having the liberty to do what I wanted was starting to affect my state of mind.

The truth was, I was scared.

And I was relying further on the man who broke my heart and just wanted me to forget about it. Seeing Adrian consumed with my life being in danger wasn’t something I could overlook anymore. At first, I thought it was all for show. A way to get me back into his bed.

However, as the days carried on, I couldn’t help but notice it wasn’t just about having sex with me. It was more than that. So much deeper than I imagined.

The way he looked at me.

Spoke to me.

Made me feel.

It was all beginning to leave a lasting impression. It felt real. He felt real. His ability to still read me like a book was there. Breathing new life into me. Simply reminding me of the love we once shared.

Or at least I thought it was love.
