Handing me a ten-dollar bill, his face grows serious. “For real, though, that was impressive. Is that something you have to do a lot?”

“This isn’t exactly a place frequented by high society. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.”

TK stares at me a moment, and his blue eyes have my belly doing backflips inside of me. God, he’s hot. Too hot for his own good and mine.

“I can only imagine the kind of shit you have to deal with in here during the rally,” he says, looking around the packed room. “They shouldn’t be leaving you to work alone. That shit’s not right.”

I prepare another order as I ponder his words. “My boss is usually the one who works this week, but he got into an accident, so now it’s just me and a very unreliable new hire.”

Just then, Melinda Humphrey sidles up next to TK, flashing him a smile I’ve seen her use on dozens of men before him. “Hey, handsome. I was over there with my girlfriends, and I was wondering if you could help me with a little bet we’ve got going.”

TK raises his brow, clearly curious, and I snort out a laugh.Typical.

Melinda glares at me before continuing. “They bet me that I couldn’t get you to give me your number.”

Chuckling, TK looks at me, and then at Melinda’s table of skanky friends. He waves at the group before turning his attention back to Melinda, giving her a smile that almost melts my panties, and he’s not even directing it at me.

God, I wish he’d direct that smile at me.

No, Cora. No, you don’t.

“Sure, sweetheart. Got a pen?”

Melinda produces a black permanent marker from her pocket and holds it out to him. Fucking hell. Why can’t he see what she’s doing?

Plucking the marker from her fingers, he takes off the cap. “So, where do you want it?”

My jaw nearly hits the floor when Melinda leans back and pushes her chest forward. She pulls the front of her shirt down so low, I can see her nipples through her lacy bra.

Grinning, he leans forward and writes out his number, looking like a man on a mission.

Yuck.

So why can’t I look away?

I try to keep from glaring as TK writes the number eight, quickly followed by a six, and then a seven across her chest, even going so far as to slip the tip of the marker just inside the edge of her bra, hiding parts of the number in her intimate areas.

Disgust and anger wash over me, but then he glances over and winks at me. I’m in shock when he writes the numbers five, three, zero, nine.

“Thank you,” she purrs, taking the marker, her voice full of phony flirtation. “If you’re lucky, maybe I’ll give you a call sometime.”

TK nods. “I hope you do, sweetheart.”

Melinda flashes him a smile and heads back to her table. It’s not until we watch her reveal her chest to them, and seeing their excitement at their friend's achievement, that TK and I burst into laughter.

“How long do you think it’ll take her to figure it out?”

“Long enough for me to get the fuck out of here.”

“I’d advise it. Melinda’s as close as you can get to a town bicycle around here, and she has the baby daddies to prove it.” She and her friends squeal loudly, clinking their drinks together in triumph. “By the looks of it, you have about five more seconds before she comes back over here. You’d better run.”

TK looks at me in mock fear. “Have a good night, Cora.”

“You too.”

I watch with more interest than I should as he walks back to his friends. God help me. The man looks just as good from the back as he does from the front.
