The big man didn’t seem too bothered by that.

“A corrupt one. I’m doing this city a favor.”

I dropped to the ground, curling into myself, when I heard the sound of slashing, followed by a sick gurgling noise.

Tears stung my eyes as the door opened again, and the big man said something that sounded like clean up or something.

I wasn’t listening anymore.

All the blood rushed to my ears, and it was taking everything in me not to pass out right now.

I wasn’t sure how long I stayed crouching in that one small spot. But it was a while after when I saw a white van pull up, and the—thebodywas transferred into it, followed by complete silence.

I grabbed my phone, my hands shaking so badly that it took several attempts before pulling up his name.

He picked up on the third ring. “Ryleigh. What is it, sweetheart? I’m waiting on an important phone call.”

I took a deep breath and tried to talk. Nothing came out but a small sob.

His voice took on a note of concern. “Ryleigh. Are you okay? Answer me. Where are you at?”

I swallowed as tears ran down my cheeks. I barely felt it, not when all the numbness had hit my body.

I tried to find my voice. “D-Dad?”

Three MonthsLater

I stared blankly aheadof the courtroom.

Dominic was sitting right behind in the gallery. His words from the last time he visited me ran through my mind.

It was the only thing I was holding onto.

I’m going to get you the fuck out of here,Dominic had said before the guard came out and told me visiting hours were over.

I still couldn’t fucking believe I got caught. And the fucking evidence they had was a crappy recording of the fucking murder that should have been torn to shreds had the fucking judge presiding over my case not had such a hard-on over the King’s Men MC.

Judge Hudson had been a thorn in my fucking side ever since he got promoted to prosecutor some odd years before and decided he wanted to be the one to put us all away.

He hadn’t been able to accomplish that as a prosecutor, and he hadn’t been able to achieve that as a district judge… until now.

Judge Hudson slammed down his gavel when he finished reading the sentence.

Twenty years without the option of parole.

He smirked from where he sat, and my fists clenched to keep from jumping over my table for the fucker.

Everything about the investigation and trial was off.

So much for my right to due process.

The evidence against me was insubstantial.

But it didn’t fucking matter because they now had the VP of the King’s Men MC behind bars.
