“No, I’m fi-” when I kick him lightly from my stool he looks at me with confusion for a minute, before catching on. “You know, now that you mention it, I do feel a little off.”
“Sandro, Vincente, you both look a little under the weather. I think we ought to stay home today and rest.”
The two men exchange a look, and Vincente replies. “Well, I don’t think that will be a problem. As far as I know, the only appointment we have is at Kellerman’s.”
“How about you let your papa know we’re staying home sick today? I’ll handle Kellermans.” Grinning, I sip my coffee.
Vincente leans over to place a kiss on my temple. “Whatever you wish, my darling.” Picking up his phone, he strides into the master bedroom and shuts the door.
Glancing at the clock, I pull my phone from my robe pocket and dial out. Rebecca answers on the first ring. “AJ Kellerman and Associates, how may I help you?”
“Hi Rebecca, it’s Sloane.”
“Oh, hi Sloane. Is everything okay?”
“Not really. I think I’ve come down with something, so I need to take a sick day.”
“I’m sorry to hear that. I’ll let AJ know.”
“Also, can you reschedule the Vargas appointment? They won’t be able to make it in today, either.”
When Rebecca replies, her voice is laced with a thick edge of comprehension. Since I finally began receiving a paycheck, she and I have become lunch buddies, and she knows way more details of my life than I’d ever admit to the guys. “Oh, I see. Yes, I can reschedule them for tomorrow at the same time, if that works?”
“Yes, that would be perfect, thank you.”
I can practically hear the smile in her tone. “Okay Sloane, thanks for calling in. I hope you feel better tomorrow.”
“I’m sure I will. Thank you.”
I set the phone down and return to my coffee, sharing a grin with Sandro and Elian as Vincente reemerges from the bedroom. “Well, Papa wasn’t pleased; I think he knows what’s up, but he said he hopes we all feel better.”
“I rescheduled your appointment at Kellerman’s to tomorrow, so I have a feeling we’re all going to improve rapidly.”
“So, now that we have the day ahead of us and our schedule cleared of obligations, what would you like to do?”
I tap my chin and gaze into the distance as if I’m thinking especially hard. The truth is, I already know exactly what I want, and as I picture all three of us laid out on the couch in our sweats, the grin stretches across my cheeks.
“Where did we leave off in Game of Thrones?”
