It’s one thirty when I finally make it home. I missed church and know my mom is gonna give me shit for it, but luckily, no one’s at the house yet. Diesel and I showered this morning, but I go ahead and take another one with my fruity body wash to make sure his scent doesn’t linger on my skin. Though I love the way he smells after he showers.
Once I’m dressed and make a cup of coffee, I check my phone and see a message from him and a group text message from Elle and Maize.
Diesel: Confession: I stole your ripped thong for my spank bank.
Rowan: You’re really adding to your stalker resume.
Diesel: I’m also sniffing them while picturing your tits bouncing in my face.
My cheeks heat at his words. He’s so blunt, and it turns me on. I’ve not really sexted before. Nick could hardly perform in the bedroom, and his skills didn’t land in texting either.
Rowan: Oh yeah? I’d shove them into your mouth while riding your cock so you could taste and feel me at the same time.
Diesel: Jesus, now I’m hard as fuck again. Which is really awkward with Wyatt playing video games next to me. He’s already giving me shit for looking like a stoned-out rodeo clown.
I giggle as I imagine how uncomfortable he must be not being able to take care of himself right now.
Rowan: It wasn’t awkward before with you sniffing my panties?
Diesel: He wasn’t looking then.
Rowan: Mm-hmm. Well, good luck with that. It’s safe for you to come back now and touch yourself in the shower.
Diesel: Don’t give me any more ideas…though I’ve been jerking off to thoughts of you since I was a teenager, so it’d be nothing new.
Rowan: You just went from sexy stalker to weird creeper.
Diesel: So I shouldn’t tell you about the love letter I wrote you when I was in eighth grade?
Rowan: You did not!
Diesel: I swear! I was infatuated with you. Still am ;)
Rowan: Stop being so damn sweet when I was such a brat to you. I feel so bad when I think about all the times I was mean to you.
Diesel: Don’t worry…I took it as flirting. You just weren’t very good at it :)
I snort, chuckling in relief. He’s the easiest person to talk to and always knows what to say to keep me laughing.
Rowan: Har har. You’re seriously ridiculous sometimes.
Diesel: You’ve always adored me, admit it.
Rowan: Ha! Gotta go! Elle and Maize want me to hang out, so I gotta put my game face on.
Diesel: If it helps, I’m picturing you naked right now.
Rowan: That absolutely does not help. Asshole.
I click to the group message so they don’t think I’m ignoring them.
Elizabeth: I gotta help birth a calf. The mama is having some complications. You two wanna come and help?
Maize: Where’s Dr. VetDreamy?
Elizabeth: On another job, which is why I gotta go solo.
Rowan: I just took a shower…
Maize: I’m hungover from last night.
Elizabeth: OMG you guys suck! I just need some extra hands.
Maize: Take Ethan.
Rowan: Or Kenzie.
Elizabeth: Meet me at the B&B in 10 minutes. Both of you!
I laugh because Maize and I were only joking. She knows we’ll come. Grabbing my rubber boots and keys, I head to my car and drive over.
“You nervous or something?” I ask when I see Elle in her truck. “You’re sweating.”
“It’s hot.”
“Mm-hmm.” I snicker, hopping into the passenger’s seat. “Maize coming?”
Before she can answer, we see her walking down the steps of the B&B porch looking like she got hit by a bus.
“Oh my God…” I laugh when she opens the back door. Turning, I raise my brows at the dark circles under her eyes and the messy bun on top of her head. “What the hell happened to you?”
Elle starts driving, and Maize groans at the bumpy road.
“I went to the bar last night to keep Kenzie company, and well…” She sighs. “Do either of you know a Gavin?”
I purse my lips, thinking about all the regulars and townies who come into the bar. “No, doesn’t ring a bell,” I tell her.
“Thank God. I hope he was just passing through.”
“Maize…” The corner of my lips tilts up. “What’d you do?”
“I think the question is who did you do?” Elle mocks.
“You hooked up with a stranger!” I laugh, shocked and kinda impressed. Maize doesn’t do hookups.
“Don’t talk so loud!” she scolds. “My head’s still pounding.”
“Go figure, the one night I’m not working you find a hottie to bang. What’d he look like?”
“Like all the other cowboys in this damn state. Ugh, fuck my life. I’m gonna be so embarrassed if I run into him again after being a sloppy drunk and probably a horrible lay.” She hangs her head in shame. Elle and I try to hide our laughter, but it doesn’t work.
“Stop worrying. I doubt he’s from here.”
