“Really?” She furrows her brows. “He seemed just like your type. Tall, hot, wears a uniform.”
Shrugging, I don’t respond. Technically, I’m not lying, except that Blake is totally the kind of guy I would’ve been attracted to, if my heart wasn’t already taken.
She remains quiet, and when she parks in the driveway, she stops me when I unbuckle. “Mads, wait.”
“Yeah?” I turn back toward her and frown at the concern etched all over her face.
She sighs before locking her gaze with mine. “What are you doing?”
I search her expression, confused. “What do you mean?”
“You and Liam,” she clarifies. “He’s married, Maddie.”
I furrow my brows and pull back as if she’s slapped me. “I’m well aware of that. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“No? Then why are you two sneaking around?”
“What?” I squeal, my heart racing. “We’re friends, Soph. Just like always. In a weird brother-sister kind of way.”
Crossing her arms, Sophie wears a hard and unwavering expression. “Really? So you’re not fooling around with him?”
I pin her with a hard stare. “You really think if we were doing stuff, I wouldn’t scream that kind of news off the rooftops? After all this time, if he gave any inkling of wanting me, you really think I’d be able to keep that a secret?”
She pinches her lips together and shrugs again. “I don’t know, Mads. You two have been very strange lately…”
“I haven’t been working as much and am home most days. We’re forced to hang out when he’s not traveling. I don’t know what’s so strange about that.” I grab the door handle and get out before she can continue to drill me. I fucking hate lying to her face, but I know the consequences if she found out the truth.
I stay in my room until my stomach starts growling, and then I surface to find some food. It’s six o’clock, and Mason and Sophie are running around getting ready to leave for the night.
“Are you two sure you know how to take care of children on your own?” I tease when Sophie trips over her shoes, and Mason catches her.
Sophie straightens herself and squares her shoulders. “I was the pillow pregnant mom, remember?”
“Wait, what?” Mason asks, and I start laughing.
“Long story, I’ll tell you in the car. We better get going if we’re going to make it on time with Saturday night traffic,” Sophie explains.
I tell them goodbye as they fly out the door, and I immediately text Liam.
Maddie: Why aren’t you naked in my bed?
Liam: Why aren’t YOU naked in MY bed?
Maddie: When’s the last time you’ve changed your sheets?
Liam: A week ago, thank you very much.
I snort at his smartass remark.
Maddie: Well, I changed mine last night, so I win.
Liam: Let’s go get dinner.
Maddie: You sure that’s a good idea? With the spy-patrol watching?
Liam: Just be your normal pain in the ass self, and they’ll know you’re just my annoying friend.
Maddie: Just for that, you’re buying.
Liam: Considering you have $8 in your purse, I was planning on it.
Maddie: You’re a stalker!
Liam: I heard chicks dig sexy stalkers.
Maddie: I never said sexy.
Liam: Really? Pretty sure I heard it.
I stand and go to Liam’s room, barging in without knocking.
“I could’ve been jerking off,” he says, lying back on his bed with his arms behind his head.
“Why? Are you looking at Serena’s vagina picture again?” I shut the door behind me, then walk toward him.
“And now my dick is soft. Thanks a lot.” He groans, but I find it hilarious, considering he’s friends with her too, and everyone assumed they were hooking up before the truth was revealed.
I straddle his lap and rock my hips. “How about now?”
Liam reaches for me and moves me against his erection. “Now you’re purposely distracting me when…” His head falls back on a moan as he jerks his body upward. “Okay, nope.” He grabs my waist and pulls me down on the bed next to him.
Sticking out my lower lip, I pout. He looks way too damn good in his dark jeans and a gray hoodie. “Nope, what? You don’t like your cock feeling good?”
“Maddie.” He growls, leaning over on his side to face me.
“We have the house to ourselves,” I remind him. “Slap a condom on and fuck me already.”
Liam’s jaw twitches as he brings a hand up to my cheek. “If you think guys slap a rubber on their dicks, then maybe that’s a sign you’re not ready.”
“Oh my God.” I throw my head back, groaning extra loud just to annoy him. “We’ve done everything besides have sex, plus we used BOB how many times? You’re not just a random guy I met at a bar. How more ready do you want me to be?”
“Trust me, Mads…fuck, I want to. Okay? You have no idea how much I’m holding back, but—”
Before he can continue, I wrap my arm around him and pull his mouth to mine, sliding my tongue deep inside. “Maddie,” he murmurs against my lips. “This isn’t going to change my mind.”
