Jace sighed. “I’m worried our girl is in more trouble than we suspect.”

“We’ll deal with it.”

“I know.”

There wasn’t anything they wouldn’t do for Kaylin.

Jace walked into his office an hour later with a stack of pictures that Brody had sent. “Look through these and see if you know anyone.”

Mack studied each one and then shook his head. “No. How about you?”

Jace shook his head. “Should we have her look at them right now or wait until we get home?”

“Let’s wait. Kaylin’s with a few friends. They’ll leave soon, and then we’ll take her home.”

Mack was hypervigilant on the way home, and he could tell Jace was, too. He breathed a sigh of relief when their door was closed and locked behind them. They decided to get her fed and comfortable before letting her see the pictures.

“Hey, babe, Brody sent some pictures to us to see if you recognize any of the men. Do you feel up to looking at them?”

“Sure.”

Kaylin went over every one of them and even went back to a few to study them again before moving on to the next. When she finished, she laid two on the table.

“You know these?” Jace asked.

“No, but they look familiar for some reason,” she said.

Mack relaxed back and gave her space. He saw her eyes widen.

“Wait!” she yelled and raced out of the room.

Mack glanced at Jace, who shrugged.

Kaylin came back with a few papers.

“These were the pictures I brought here with me.”

She laid them both in front of the guys. “Do you see the resemblance?” She pointed to a few of the guys and then the pictures Brody brought.

Mack looked, and they were definitely similar, but it was hard to tell.

“I only had a hard pencil and no light when I drew these, so they’re not as sharp as normal.”

It was also nighttime and under a dim light in the alley.

“When was this?” Mack asked.

“About four or five months ago. I was sleeping and heard some people talking. I knew it was late at night because I didn’t hear a lot of cars and people on the street. This group of guys stood down the alley and talked. They argued a bit.”

“Did they see you?” Jace asked.

She shook her head. “No. I peeked out of a hole I had in the box. They knew we were there, but we didn’t seem to bother them.”

Jace sighed. “Did you hear anything they were saying?”

“Not really. I know one of them sounded really mad.”

“How many guys?”
