He grinned down at her and was pleased she tried to smile.
“Why don’t you wait to brush your teeth until after you eat something?”
“I’m not hungry.”
“I still want you to eat a bit.”
“But…” she said.
“When’s the last time you ate?”
“Sometime yesterday.”
“You can’t heal if you don’t keep your strength up.”
“Fuck, man, you sound like a fucking doctor,” Ghost said.
“Fuck off.” Ax rolled his eyes.
“I’ll try,” she said.
Ax was shocked at his first glance into the room. There was shit all over it. It looked like they had lived there for a week instead of just an hour.
“What the fuck did you get?” Ax asked.
Burn shrugged as he sat on a chair in the room. “Everything I thought we’d need.”
“And then some,” Ghost said.
They started to bicker. Ax sighed when they started throwing things at each other.
“Children, can’t we try to behave and get along?”
A bottle of Tylenol hit him in the forehead. He was pleased to see she laughed. It was a sweet sound. He had her sit on one of the king-size beds before he handed her part of a sandwich.
“I know your lip is split, so tell me if eating that is too much.”
She nodded and took small bites. Ax glanced at his brothers to see them staring at her with different degrees of attraction. He scowled at them, making them grin.
She finished most of the half, so he handed her a bottle of juice. “Is this okay?” he asked.
“Yes.”
Ax opened the bottle of Tylenol. “Here, take a few of these.”
“What’s your name?” Burn asked.
Ax grinned. He’d forgotten to introduce the guys to her, but then again, he didn’t usually have any need for manners.
“Ella.”
Burn nodded. “How old are you?”
“I’m not sure. I think either nineteen or twenty. I could even be twenty-one.”
“How do you not know your age?” Ax asked. He was relieved that she was of age because the more time he spent with her, the more he liked her. He could not determine her looks yet because she was swollen and scraped up. He was amazed she was able to move at all after he’d seen the contusions all over her body.
She was one tough woman, and he liked that about her. He could see her fitting into the family very well. He’d just have to play it by ear.
