“Cookie,” Cole growls, nipping at my earlobe. “I think you’re feeling better. Your sense of humor is coming back.”
I look up at Cole and take his face in my hands, like he always does with me. “You are the only man I have ever loved. I gave you my soul, my virginity. I will love you forever, Coulter Holt.” I gently place my lips on his.
Cole leans me back so my head is laying on the armrest of the sofa. He draws back, so he’s looking at me. “I’m sorry about today. We’re having a hard time getting our feet under us. I promise things will get better.”
“What are we going to do when your business is finished here in Vegas? Where are we going to call home?”
“I was thinking Seattle. That’s where Kit, Race and I are going to set up business. I already own a building downtown, and I have another business there. We’ll eventually merge with it.”
“I like Seattle. Can we buy a house?”
Cole gives me that smile. “I bought a home about a month ago. I got tired of living in a sky rise.”
“Where in Seattle is it?”
“It’s east of the city on Mercer Island.”
I raise my eyebrows at him. “So, it’s a big house.”
“It’s on the lake. We can remodel it or renovate, whatever you want.”
“What about your house in Malibu?”
“I’m not sure. I’ll take you there. We’ll decide what to do with it together.”
“Is that where all your cars are?”
“Yes.” Cole moves behind me and wraps his arms around me, so we’re spooning on the sofa.
“Which is your favorite?”
“That one is easy, the Ferrari 458 Spider.”
“Wait—isn’t that our Ferrari?”
“Yes, and that’s why it’s my favorite. I met you when I was driving it.”
“Well, you are my hot Ferrari guy.”
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Cole and I watch a western movie. It’s old and boring but Cole likes it, so I don’t complain; we’re together and that’s all I care about.
“Kate,” Cole shakes me awake.
“Huh,” Then, his hands are underneath me and he picks me up. I wrap my arms around him, snuggling against his chest. No protesting from me tonight. I’m too tired. He sits me down on the bench while he turns the bed down. I stand up to walk to my side of the bed, but Cole grabs me again, sweeping me off my feet. I glance at him.
He smiles. “I’m putting my wife to bed and tucking her in.”
“Aren’t you coming to bed?”
“In a little while, I need to attend to some emails.” He pulls the covers up over me, tucking them under my chin. “I love you, Katie.” I’m not sure, but Cole seems to have a tremble in his voice.
“I love you too,” I yawn, curling into a ball. He kisses my cheek and I hear the door click closed behind me.
“Kate, wake up. Wake up, sleepyhead.” Cole kisses down my arm. When I don’t respond, he trails kisses back up it and across my neck, swirling his tongue along my faded hickies.
“Mr. Ferrari, don’t even think about it.”
