“What if you told your dad what Olivia’s been doing? You have nothing to lose, either.”
“They are just words to him unless there’s proof.”
“Well damn.”
Cole laughs. “I know.”
“I’m regretting more and more not taking a picture of Olivia strung out at the end of Kit’s bed.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Oh, I don’t?” I scrunch my eyebrows at him.
He smooths the wrinkles out with his hand. “That would’ve hurt Kit.”
“So?”
“Kit and I are in business together. Hurting Kit would hurt business.”
“Oh well, I guess what they say is wrong.”
“And what do they say?” Cole chuckles.
“Business and personal life don’t mix.”
“Oh, baby.” This gets Cole really laughing.
“Hey,” I say, pushing him back on the bed then laying on him.
He rolls us so I’m under him. “It’s business and pleasure, Cookie, and they mix about as well as oil and water.” I wrap my arms around Cole and try to roll him.
“Oh no, Cookie, it’s my turn to be on top.”
After too much fun in bed and in the shower, I kiss Cole goodbye at the top of the stairs. “I’ll miss you.”
“Oh baby.” He grabs my ass, hitching me closer to him. “I will miss you. Maybe we can have a late dinner around eight or nine, but I can’t promise.”
I open my mouth to speak, but Cole silences me with a kiss. “I do promise to be home by midnight.”
“All right,” I sigh, “and I promise to use security to go anywhere.”
“Thank you, baby.” He gives me one last kiss goodbye.
I know if I stay in the villa, I’ll go stir crazy. I don’t really want to go shopping unless it’s Luke who comes with me, but I doubt he will. So it’s either stay here or grin and bear it. I decide to grin and bear it, choosing to make trips to the grocery store and Target. Target always improves my mood. I text Luke and he texts back, saying someone will meet me in the foyer.
I finish getting ready, then head downstairs. I scan the lobby for a guy in a suit, but there isn’t one. Just a lady in a dress suit talking on the phone. Thinking maybe they’re waiting in the SUV, I walk further out into the foyer, but the only car in the driveway is some type of sedan.
I’m about to dial Luke when I feel a tap on my shoulder. Turning around, I come face to face with the woman in the suit coat.
“Miss Cook,” Oh great, this ruffles my feathers even more.
“You can call me Kate.” She gives me a tight smile. It seems she’s as happy to be here as I am to have her here. I’m such a lucky girl.
“I’m Shane.” She holds her hand out for me to shake. It’s like putting my hand in a steel trap. I’m not sure I’ll ever regain full use of my fingers again. “Shall we?” She walks in front of me, giving me a chance to flex my fingers and make sure they’re not broken. I wonder if this woman has anger issues?
She opens the back door of the sedan and I slide in.
“Where are we going today?” Shane asks from the driver’s seat.
