I ran down the stairs to the guest room I’d been staying in. The party was in full force with loud banging music and cheering from my peers.
Bunch of assholes. All of them. Every single one.
I was in the middle of shoving clothes into my duffle bag when I heard the door open behind me. I spun around, ready to beat the shit out of Kane if he’d decided to test me again.
But it wasn’t him.
“You fucking knew, didn’t you? And you didn’t even warn me.”
“I’m sorry,” Gemma choked through tears. “Are you okay?”
I looked down at myself. I was a mess. One of the straps on my dress was torn, and I had the fucktwit’s blood splattered on me from when I punched him in the face.
“I’m great. Having a lovely fucking time, thank you for asking.”
“Noah didn’t want to do it. He didn’t have a ch–choice.”
I laughed as I went back to packing my bag. “Well, you can tell him that he better watch his back.”
“Please don’t be mad at him.”
I spun around and narrowed my eyes on mybest friend. “Who put him up to it?”
“I can’t say. Is–is it that big of a deal? Kane will get over it. You should’ve told me you were seeing him.”
“Is that what this is about? Payback because I don’t tell you about every single guy I hook up with?”
“No,” she sniffled. “But I don’t know why you hid it from me. I can’t give any more information about it, but just know that Noah didn’t have another option.”
“Okay,” I said curtly as I hooked my bag on my shoulder and side-stepped Gemma on my way out the door. “Have a nice life, best friend.”
I heard her blubbering as I left the house, needing to get away from every person who occupied it. Once I was in the driveway, I pulled my phone from my bag and sent a text to Finn.
Me: Can you pick me up? I’ll be walking south.
I sent him a pin of my location so he could head my way–hopefully. Finn was the only person I could trust to get me somewhere away from the mansion. Dominic and Xavier would make me go to the club. I could ask Ashtyn, but she lived in another town and it would be awkward considering she was with Kane’s cousin.
I didn’t have anyone else I could trust.
Finn: On my way.
Thank fuck for that. I knew we would be good friends one day, even if he was a little sketch. I didn’t have many other options at the moment.
Fuck. I remembered I was supposed to meet Bash at his creepy, abandoned barn tonight. Guess that wouldn’t be happening.
Oh well, he would have to exact his plans on his own.
I no longer wanted any part of Gio’s business, of Dad’s plot to take over, or the Dominguez crew from Fremont.
I was done.
As I walked down the dark road in my bare feet, trying to stay out of the way of vehicles flying by me, I thought of how to escape my life. I could stay with Finn for a day or two, try to get my hands on some cash, and buy a bus ticket out of here.
Or a plane ticket. I would need something untraceable.
Knowing Dad, he would hunt me down and drag me back. Probably handcuff me to a pole at Ethereal.
“You look like hell,” Finn said as he rolled up on me.
