The room was crowded. Loud. Suffocating.
“Fine,” she relented, heading for the glass doors that lead to the patio.
The quiet was instant as the doors closed. The sky glittered with stars–something you couldn’t see in the city.
“What did you want, Kane?”
“I wanted–I wanted to tell you that I was…sorry…for what I said earlier. I didn’t mean it.” Her breath stopped as I took a step closer. Her chest grazed mine as I tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.
“Then why say it?” She asked breathlessly.
“Because I’m…a fucking asshole, okay?” I swallowed the lump in my throat and her eyes dropped to my mouth.
“You’re nice sometimes.”
I scoffed. “Depends on who you ask, I guess.”
“You can make it up to me,” she said as her tongue peeked out to wet her lips. She sank her teeth into the lower one, sending a jolt to my cock.
I’d spent enough time imagining what she’d look like with her lips wrapped around me, tears streaming down her face as I fucked her mouth.
“How?”
She paused for a moment as she contemplated her words. “Kiss me.”
“K–kiss you?”
She shrugged. “I’ve never done it and I wanted the practice. It’s not a big deal.”
As she went to turn away, I grabbed her again, wrapping my arm around her waist and pulling her into me. I ripped the white feather mask from her face and chucked it behind me, doing the same with mine. I held her cheek with my palm and swept her bottom lip with my thumb.
“Kane–”
I cut off her sentence when I pressed my mouth to hers. Her lips were soft and inviting, and my heart sputtered when she kissed me back, opening her mouth and caressing my tongue with her own. Her hands slid up my chest and landed in my hair, massaging my head. I pulled her body against me, all of my blood rushing south.
I wanted her so fucking bad I thought I was going to combust.
A throat clearing behind me ended our kiss. I spun around to see Dante scowling at us.
“Your dad wants to talk to you, Kane.”
I let out an annoyed sigh. “Is it an emergency?”
“Yes.”
Bullshit.
I sighed again and turned back to Dani. Her lips were puffy and her lip gloss smeared. “Wait here for me, okay? I’ll be right back.”
She nodded and forced a smile as I left. Dante’s eyes followed me as I went through the doors to see what theemergencywas…
There were more people to meet. Apparently it was rude of me to ditch the party to go outside. Wasn’t it enough for Dad that Bobby associated with all his friends? Why did I have to do it too? It wasn’t my scene, and kissing ass wasn’t my thing. I couldn’t concentrate on the conversations anyway.
I couldn’t stop thinking about that kiss. Dani’s first kiss. In my mind, it was my first too. Playing spin the bottle in eighth grade didn’t count.
Half an hour later, I was on my way back to the patio.
I looked around at the darkness. Crickets chirped and the stars sparkled.
