“Either way, Lauren can’t find out that we all know what she did,” I said, hating the thought of letting her think she won. “Just keep pretending we’re not friends anymore.”
“No!” Kane shouted. “I’m done pretending. I’m done being her fake boyfriend. We had a deal and she reneged on it. Now it’s time she pays for that.”
“I have every intention of making her pay,” I smiled. “But we need to plan it and hit her when she least expects it. That means keeping up the charade at school. You’re both good at ignoring me, so it shouldn’t be a problem to keep it up for a few more days. I’m still on suspension.”
Gemma sighed and grabbed my hands with hers. “Tell me what I have to do to make you forgive me. I can’t go any longer with you hating me.”
“I don’t hate you, Gem. I’m fucking hurt. Honestly, I don’t know how to get over it. Do you know how hard it is for me to let people in?” I paused and neither of them said anything. “I just need some time, okay? I promise I don’t hate you. If I hated you, I would’ve beaten your ass by now.”
Gemma smiled and shook her head, knowing my sense of humor was a little on the twisted side. But I meant every word–I’d always love the girl no matter what.
“I appreciate that, Dani,” Gemma said as she stood from the couch. “I’ll give you two some privacy for…whatever,” she smirked.
I grabbed her wrist as she went to pass. “You don’t have to break up with Noah because of me, Gem. He was put in a shitty place and he felt like he didn’t have a choice.”
“He shouldn’t have put me in the position to choose between him and my best friend.”
“You’re right, but if he makes you happy–and I know he does–don’t write him off because of what Lauren did.” I gave her a light smile and she nodded before heading down the steps.
I wanted to choke Noah for what he did, but I wanted my best friend to be happy too.
Look at me, being all mature and shit.
I stretched my jean-covered legs across the coffee table and leaned back against the couch, sizing up the man before me. He seemed lighter than usual–like the idea of Gemma and I sort of reconciling made him feel better. “So, have you killed Noah yet? Gemma didn’t seem terribly upset that you found out about them.”
Kane plopped down next to me, stretching his legs out, mimicking my pose. “I wanted to kill them both when I found out the truth, but when I confronted Gemma, she broke down and told me everything. Well, noteverything, but I heard enough to know they care about each other. I’ve seen enough of her moping to know that she was hurting.”
“Gem’s a good girl and Noah’s a good guy when he isn’t out to destroy my life and what little reputation I have,” I chuckled.
Kane’s arm slithered behind me, pulling me into his side. He was so warm and comforting, I kinda forgot I was supposed to be mad at him as I rested my head on his chest. He had a long way to go to hit one hundred orgasms. Even though the goal was a joke, he was taking the task seriously. And I didn’t mind one bit.
We had more important things to worry about than petty high school drama.
“Thank you for talking to her,” he said as he kissed the top of my head. He stroked my arm and looked at me with admiration in his eyes, making heat blossom throughout me.
“You’re right about needing to be on the same side. When all this shit goes down with my dad, it’s going to get ugly.”
“Mhmm,” Kane purred against my head. “Speaking of which, I’m heading to the club now to plant the software.”
My heart dropped thinking about Kane getting caught. I never thought Dad would be evil enough to hurt his best friend’s son, but then I remembered Bobby and how they never caught the person who rammed into his bike, sending him over that embankment and forever changing the course of his life.
“I want you to stay here,” he warned, grabbing my chin and pulling my face to his. “And I’ll be checking the cameras. No late-night excursions to the biker bar, no brokering deals to buy girls from Dante, and sure as fuck no partying at the Sinners’ clubhouse.”
I smiled and pulled my bottom lip through my teeth. “There goes all my fun. You know how easily I get bored. What will I do to occupy my time while you’re gone?”
“You can get in my bed and play with yourself until I get back,” he said with that gravelly voice that made butterflies erupt in my belly. He kissed my lips softly, the softest kiss he’d ever given, and dropped to his knees in front of me.
His eyes burned with hunger as he unzipped my pants and dragged them down my legs, tossing them to the side. His hands crept up my thighs, sending chills down my spine. He placed delicate kisses along the inside of my thighs, slowly making his way to my panties.
“One for the road?” He asked with a smirk as his finger traced the edge of the lace.
My legs separated and wetness pooled in my panties. The man was a fucking god with that tongue of his, and my body knew what was coming and reacted accordingly.
He moved the material to the side of my glistening lips and groaned before he even had a taste. “This is the best apology tour I’ve ever been on. Hold onto my hair, sweetheart.”
