"Well, you got a white husband, and he won't mind." Margaret smiled.

"It is very comfortable." Snow Bird smiled.

"You keep it, I won't be needing it any longer. And the way you and your husband go at it, you might need it a lot." Margaret chuckled.

"Thank you," Snow Bird tiptoed to kiss her cheek.

Margaret got a bit misty-eyed. "That's the first kiss I've gotten in years."

She started to go back but Margaret shook her head.

"Wait, let's let that beautiful hair of yours loose. It is so pretty and shiny, I bet your husband will appreciate it. Men like to look at a women's hair."

Margaret had a comb and after she unbraided her hair, she combed it until it shone. "Now, that's better."

"You are a good woman." Snow Bird exclaimed as they went inside, Snow Bird twirled around to let Matt see her. Her hair flew as she twirled and then rested on her shoulders.

"You're beautiful…" Matt smiled and came up to twirl her around and kiss her.

"You like it?" She beamed.

"Sure, I do. You really are beautiful." He smiled.

The red-head came up to them, staring at the dress, then Snow Bird's face. Then she turned to Matt and asked,

"You trying to make a white woman out of her?" She asked sarcastically. "Not that I blame you a bit."

"No ma'am, but my wife is pregnant, and her Indian dress was getting too tight, crowding the baby. By the way, what is your name and your man's."

She moved around him and smiled, "Everyone calls me Kat, but my given name is Katherine Ellis. And my man as you call him is Willis Mills."

Matt nodded, as he gathered Snow Bird against him. "Pleased to meet you."

She batted her eyes at him and smiled, "Any time you get tired of the Indian, let me know." She winked and went back to her place beside Willis who was sending a scowl to Matt.

Matt ignored it and smiled now at Snow Bird. Snow Bird was not smiling though. Matt could tell she

didn't like the woman. "You been feeling alright?"

"Yes. I am fine."

"Good. When you reckon you are due?"

"Late spring, early summer." She told him knowing he was trying to get her mind off the woman.

"It will be exciting. You decided if you want a girl or a boy?"

"No," she came up to him and hugged him now. "As long as it is strong and healthy." She kissed him on the cheek. She looked around and Kat was smiling at her now.

"Yeah, I guess that is true. I'm excited."

She considered his face when he spoke and the warm smile, she sent him made him squeeze her tighter. "You must name it for me. I know little of white names."

Matt nodded, "Do you want a white name?"

"Yes, he will be part white, go to white children's school. He must have a white name."

"I'll think on it…" He smiled and when she went back to cooking, he walked over to Ferg who was sitting on the front porch whittling.
