“They also now believe her real name is Gwen Hughes,” Ghost reminded the group.
“We need to get her out of the hospital, possibly even out of the country,” Ivy said.
“London,” both Ghost and Ivy said simultaneously.
“Great minds.” Ghost winked at his wife, loving how in sync they were.
“What’s in London?” Bench asked.
“Our newest office.” Although Ivy and Ghost hadn’t worked out all the details, they had hired Seven’s brother, Ryan Butler, former MI5 analyst and a former Navy pilot who was friends with Ghost, and assisted Seven with his last mission. Heath had already proven his worth by gathering intel with their recently acquired drone, thanks to Byte’s sticky fingers.
“We’ll have Byte handle the transfer after we’ve spoken with Chaos. Ultimately, it’s her choice,” Ivy reminded her husband.
“With Daisy gone, the target will go back to Gwen,” Carter stated.
“And this time we’ll be prepared. Here’s the plan.” The group listened as Ghost gave instructions to the team. They had two goals. First, protect Voodoo at all costs, and second, to capture their number one suspect, Vanessa Fulbright. Carter, however, had a third goal... to fix what he’d broken all those years ago. To have the life he was supposed to have with Gwen. To make her trust him again, no matter how long it took.
I can’t fail her a second time.
CHAPTERTWENTY
Byte had followed Voodoo outside and dragged her back to her apartment. Voodoo had spent a lot of time at Byte’s place. Although it wasn’t homey, in the normal sense, it was a place she felt safe.
“He slept with her. I can’t get that out of my mind. I know it’s stupid. We’ve been separated for over five years. Of course he’s had sex.”
“Like you have.”
“I know that... which is why this is so stupid. Why do I feel betrayed?”
“Because none of your past partners meant anything to you, not even Seven.”
“Ugh… that was another mistake.”
“You should’ve seen Carter’s reaction when Seven introduced himself. It was priceless.”
“How did he even know?”
“Not sure. It wasn’t from us. We were all just as shocked when Carter punched him and broke his nose.”
“I’m sure that went over well.”
“Ironically, it did. Aria couldn’t stop laughing. She told Carter she’d wanted to do that for a long time. I think her admission was what sobered the situation.”
“I never meant to hurt her.”
“Of course you didn’t. You didn’t even know there was an Aria back then. What I’m saying is Carter didn’t know there was a Voodoo.”
“When did you get so smart?” The smirk Byte gave had Voodoo altering her question.
“When did you get sosociallysmart?”
“No idea. Now, let’s come up with a plan.”
“I thought that was what they were doing downstairs.”
“Oh, they are working on a mission. I’m talking about your plan to win your husband back.”
“Who said I even want him back?”
