Kai smirked. “Yes, it was.” He pulled me into his arms and kissed me. “Where are we venturing out to tomorrow?”
There were so many places we needed to search.
“How about Maine?” I suggested. “It’s still winter in the mortal realm. I’m sure we’ll find some Winter fae out there.”
Kai nodded in approval. “I’m good with that. How many do you think we’ll find?”
I shrugged. “Not sure. But I do know we’ll have at least one in the next few months.”
I tried not to smile and failed. I was waiting to see if he caught on to any hidden meanings.
Instead, he furrowed his brows, clearly confused. “I’m hoping we’ll have more than just one in the span of a few months, love.”
I bit my lip. “Well, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but it’ll only be one this time.”
I didn’t know I was pregnant until Lailah told me yesterday when I was helping a fae cross over into the Hereafter. It’s only been a day and keeping the secret from Kai grew harder with each passing second.
Taking Kai’s hand, I placed it on my stomach and smiled. “Do you get it now?”
Kai’s eyes widened and he stood, his gaze frantically searching mine. “Are you serious?” He clutched my face, his whole body thrumming with excitement.
“I am,” I said. “You’re going to be a father.”
Kai crushed his lips to mine. “I didn’t think it would happen so fast.”
I giggled. “Neither did I. But I’m happy it did.”
He kissed me gently this time. “So am I. It’s going to be a new adventure for us.”
“Yes, it is,” I agreed. “And we get to go through it together.”
Kai smiled, and there were tears in his eyes. “Always.”
