I scratch my cheek with the sleeve of my sweatshirt. “They’re letting Mitchell spend more time with Rumi.”

“Still supervised?”

“Yeah.”

“Doesn’t he have to go back to work?”

“He’s a freelancer, like Myka. I think being here with Rumi is good for his soul.”

Mitch is considering selling his belongings and just buying a property here. However, he won’t do it until he knows what’s going to happen with Anya and Rumi.

From what he told me last night during dinner, the lawyer gave him hope regarding the custody. He’ll be able to apply as soon as Anya is awake, so she can be present during the hearing.

We’re all hoping that she’ll go back to being her old self. Knowing her, she’ll work things out with Mitchell. If not romantically, at least in a way where they can be a family for Rumi.

Nydia grins. “Luna Harbor is one of the best healing places in the world.”

“Oh please, don’t start with your weird propaganda.”

She shrugs. “We have a great clinic. And did you hear? They’re going to start building a hospital.”

“Iskander mentioned something about it. His excitement about the town’s growth has increased in the past few days.”

“I guess I was wrong.”

I stop scooping lavender with the weird gadget she invented and ask, “About?”

“He’d break your heart,” she says.

“I was too scared to see how incredible he is. Therefore, I didn’t fall for him the first time.”

“And now?”

We don’t want to talk about our current relationship, and even though Nydia is my best friend, I want to wait until the storm is over and I can enjoy this new stage of my relationship with Iskander. “If that happens, he’ll be the first to know.”

“That’s code for you’re so in love, you might choose a dress soon.” Her taunting voice makes me laugh.

“Well, now who’s skipping several steps?”

“Life is too short to be waiting around,” she says. “Enjoy the moment, smell the lavender, and all that carpe diem propaganda.”

“Says the woman who waited almost three years to get married.”

She gives me a mischievous grin. “I wanted to find the perfect place. Once Bri had the garden ready, I said I do.”

“That’s bullshit.”

“Okay, I’ll admit that we didn’t wait that long. We only needed the ceremony in front of our friends and family. We’ve been married for years,” she whispers.

I glare at her. “You’re a shitty best friend.”

She laughs. “You hid your family from me too.”

I take off my garden glove and lift my pinky finger. “Can we call it even?”

“Only if I’m your maid of honor,” she says, staring at my hand.

“Hey, no. It’s my turn to be someone’s maid of honor,” Nathalie’s voice pops out of somewhere before I can spot her marching toward us.
