She puts her hands on her waist, glaring the way only she can. Angry but looking too fucking hot. “What do you need, Cantú?”
“Your sister is sick, you’re unemployed, and from what I heard, about to lose this house. You can’t possibly think I’m just going to leave.”
“Listen, our time together was nice.” She uses a condescending voice that’s pissing me off. This woman knows how to push my buttons. “I enjoyed every moment we spent together. The exotic vacations, the lavish dates, and the sex.”
Siobhan gives me that sexy grin that makes me hard almost immediately. I want to drag her somewhere private and possess her.
I control myself.
“It was all good, but it’s also over. Luna Harbor was a nice break from the routine. It’s time to come back to reality and pick up where I left off.”
The indifference hurts, but it also feels like a defense mechanism to keep herself safe from me.
She turns around and opens the door. As she pushes the stroller inside, I dare to ask, “You’re pregnant, aren’t you? Those tests were yours, not Nydia’s?”
The woman who opened the door earlier is by the door. Siobhan whispers something to her. After getting the stroller inside, she closes the door, turning around but holding the handle.
“Yes, you’re right. They were for me. I don’t know if I’m expecting a baby, but you don’t need to worry about it.”
I pinch the bridge of my nose. “How—”
“Stop! I’m not asking you for anything. Please just go back to where you came from and forget we exist. That’s how friends with benefits work.”
“You can’t expect me—”
“I said stop!”
“Yes, but I need you to listen to me,” I raise my voice to match hers, which I hate to do with her. “I don’t understand how you can expect me to ignore you and my child.”
“Easy, you go back to where you came from and forget about us. The last thing my kid needs is a man who’s just paying attention out of guilt and not love.”
And the sad truth is I can’t defend myself after all the shit I said about relationships and children. But that was before her—before I realized I love her.
I never let anyone inside my heart, but now… She’s a part of me, and how am I supposed to explain it to her when I said so many stupid things to protect… Who did I protect?
It doesn’t matter. I have to show her who I can be and from the looks of it, I only have about five seconds before she serves me with a restraining order.
“That’s something I—”
“Would do because that’s your MO,” she interrupts me and puts words in my mouth that aren’t true. “If you don’t mind, I have things to do.”
“Siobhan, stop!”
She turns around. Her face is scarlet red. “You’re not my boss, we’re not in bed, and most importantly, we’re nothing to each other.”
And as the door closes, my heart shatters because I did this to myself, and I don’t think I’ll be able to fix it.
ChapterTwenty-Four
Siobhan
I lean on the door, holding myself while regulating my breathing and my pulse. My legs tremble. It was hard not to fall back into old habits of falling right into his arms and forgetting about the outside world. But what I can’t ignore is the fact that my life has once again been uprooted—and not in the way I saw coming.
He’s never been someone I could count on, but I leaned on him while I took a break and put myself together.
But this man… I don’t know how to finish that sentence. I never caught feelings for him, but he makes my knees weak, my heart rate goes to Mach ten speed in less than five seconds, and my panties wet with just a hello.
Anya’s first reaction is to say, “He’s hot.”
