When he’s shoved into the room, he whimpers.
Henri scoffs. “Already crying? Why am I not surprised?”
I ask Potts, “Do you know who I am?”
“You’re the Beast.”
I nod. “Good. That will make this a lot easier. You owe me a lot of money, Potts. Money I don’t think you have.”
“I can get it. I swear!”
I snort. “I’ve seen your yearly salary, Potts. Don’t insult me like that.”
“I can sell some things. My daughter has a laptop. That has to be worth something.”
I shake my head. “A laptop isn’t worth sixty thousand dollars, Potts.”
“Please. There has to be something I can do to pay you back. I’ll do anything!”
“Anything?”
He nods. “Yes.”
“And if I told you to drop to your knees and suck my cock, you would?”
He visibly swallows and lowers to his knees.
I laugh. “Get up. There’s no way I’d let you anywhere near my cock. But you do have something that I want. Something I would be willing to forgive your debts for.”
“It’s yours. Whatever it is, you can have it!”
“I want your daughter. In return, I’ll forgive your debts. I’ll even give you a little extra to show my thanks.”
His throat bobs. “How much extra?”
“Let’s say 30K. Does that suit you?”
“Yes. That’s more than fair!”
“Good.” I pull the check from my breast pocket, handing it to him. “I will collect her tonight at eight. Make sure she knows I’m coming.”
He grabs the check, looking it over, before tucking it into his pocket. He’s so predictable that it almost takes some of the fun out of the game. Almost.
“If she runs, you’re going to pay. Understand?”
“She won’t run. You have my word.”
Victory courses up my spine as we shake hands.
Turning to Henri, I say, “Now, show Potts just how serious we are.”
Henri cracks his knuckles, moving toward Potts.
Potts’ eyes widen. “Wha-”
Henri’s fist makes satisfying contact with Potts’ face. Blood sprays in the air, something I don’t think I’ll ever tire of seeing. I stand back, watching. Damn. Guess Henri was telling the truth when he said he’s the one who’s been taking care of my problems. Potts screams fill the air as I turn, lifting my phone, calling Maurice.
“We’re going to Grandfather’s house tonight.”
