He looks like magic.
Of course he does.
Just look at him.
Zipping across the field with his dark hair, now much longer — as long as it used to be back then — flying in the air. Zooming from goalpost to goalpost with a speed that should be impossible. Much like the ball that he’s dribbling and kicking. And made the first goal with at six minutes into the game.
We’re at the thirty-second minute and the score still remains 1-0. And I know, Iknowthat there’s still a long way to go and anyone who knows anything about soccerknowsthat things change with seconds to spare in this game.
So I probably shouldn’t be overconfident.
But I am.
Because it’s him and as I said, he’s magic.
Oh, and the Daredevil, who does impossible things, things that no one ever does.
“So are you sure? As in, really sure about your living situation.”
I look away from the game to focus on the girl sitting beside me. A couple of years older than me, Maple Mayflower is gorgeous. With whiskey-colored eyes and wheat-blonde hair, she has to be one of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever seen.
I also have to say that at first, I didn’t like her at all.
Even though she’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.
“Yes,” I say, sighing, my heart clenching in my chest.
“It’s going to be hard.”
“I know.”
“I do not envy you guys.”
I look back out to the field. “Me neither.”
“Especially when you think about how you guys just found each other.”
Like about four months back.
Which honestly, feels like yesterday. It feels like I blinked, and the time simply vanished. And we went from kissing in those woods to me, sitting here and watching him be the star of the game, talking about our impending separation.
Maple bumps my shoulder then. “But you’ll get through it.”
I look at her again. “You think so?”
“Yes, of course,” she says, throwing her arm across my shoulder and hugging me. “If anyone can do it, it’s you two.”
I swallow. “Yeah.”
She’s right.
If anyone can endure this separation, it’s me and him.
It’sus.
I mean, we’ve endured a lot. We’ve gone through a lot of things over the years and we still made it to the other side. So I know that we’ll get through this as well: me staying in New York to go to NYU and him, getting picked to play with the LA Galaxy.
Well, the drafts aren’t until next month but it’s almost finalized. Actually, a lot of teams have showed their interest in him over the years — more so in the last few months, ever since he expressed the desire to enter the drafts — but the Galaxy have seriously courted him and made him the best offer.
