MAX

Iwoke up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee wafting up the stairs and into my bedroom. I felt for Angel next to me, but her side of the bed was empty.

“Good morning, Boss,” her husky voice sounded from the doorway.

I turned to see my beauty standing there wearing one of my T-shirts and carrying two coffee mugs.

“Hhmm. Hello there.”

“Coffee?”

Angel walked to the bed and handed me a cup.

“That’s it. You can stay over as often as you like,” I sighed and stretched out lazily before I took the coffee.

“Sweet talker.”

Angel was as beautiful first thing in the morning as she was when she was all dressed up and ready to go out. My previous girlfriend used to take forever to get ready. She wore so much makeup that I nearly didn’t recognize her when I caught her without it early one morning. The relationship didn’t last long. Not because she wasn’t all that pretty without her warpaint, but because I preferred a natural woman–one who didn’t leave makeup all over my collar.

A thought sprang into my head while I watched Angel as she sat in bed sipping her coffee. The thought spilled from my brain onto my lips before too long.

“Move in with me, Angel.”

“What?”

“I want you to live with me. I love having you around.”

“Wow. I wasn’t expecting this so early in the day,” she smiled.

“What do you say? You’re here most of the time, anyway. Let’s make it official.”

She looked at me for a while before she spoke.

“Okay. Let’s do it. As long as you remember that when we’re home, you’re not the boss of me,” she smirked.

“Darling, even at work I doubt whether I’m the boss of you.”

“This is going to work nicely, then,” Angel winked.

“I agree. Now, finish your coffee, roomie. I have a housewarming gift for you.”

“I see you’ve thought this through,” she laughed as I reached for her.

“Hold your horses, Max. I’d need a bathroom break.”

“Fine. But don’t be long. I’d hate to start without you.”

“Is that a threat?”

“I wouldn’t dream of threatening someone who knows the law so intimately, councilor.”

“That’s right. You don’t want that cute little tooshie of yours in prison. I refuse to share you with a horny, bearded suitor.”

“Wow. Now you choose to show your mean side. Well played.”

“You can’t take it back. I’m moving in, and that’s that.”
