“I’m so sorry. Stevens was shot. I don’t even know if he’s okay. Bruce said he’d find out for me.”

“That’s awful, Max. What a mess.”

“I’m just so happy I was here for Dasha’s birth. I’m sorry this has been so tough on you, my love.”

“Promise me this is the end of it. I don’t think I can do this again.”

“You’re not alone. I couldn’t face putting either you or myself through this kind of shit storm again either. I’m going to make this up to you, Angel. I swear it.”

Little Dasha was latching. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.

“Looks like your days on the breast are over, darling,” Angel smiled at me.

“Have a kid, they said…”

ANGEL

“Wakey wakey, gorgeous. Is that wedding cake I’m smelling?”

“If it is, it means that Dasha’s gotten his sticky little hands into the box,” I said and stretched myself out.

“Good morning, Miss Harris,” Max said and nibbled on my earlobe.

“This is the last time you’ll be saying that” I smiled.

“Are you nervous?”

“To marry you? Maybe. You are an ex-con now. I guess I’m living on the edge.”

“Haha. Your badass boy’s gonna put a ring on it.”

“What’s the time?”

“It’s 7:37 am, my bride-to-be.”

“Ugh…Early. I love you so much my lover, but I’ll be glad when this day is at an end. My nerves are shot.”

“You’ve done a brilliant job, Angel. Our wedding is going to be perfect.”

“Thanks for helping. I’m sure you’re over it too,” I chuckled.

“Hey, I owe you large, remember? I’m your willing slave for the next foreseeable future.”

“Yeah, and don’t you forget it.”

“Coffee, my little vixen?”

“Now you’re talking.”

“Okay. I’ll be back in a few.”

Dasha shouted from his room. He must have heard Max’s voice. My two boys were joined at the hip. Dasha was a carbon copy of his father–gorgeous smile and all.

“I’ll get him.”

“Thanks, Babe.”
