“Don’t lie to me,” he’d said in my ear. “Tell me no man has ever touched you here before. Tell me your cunt belongs to me now.”

“Yes,” I’d gasped. “It belongs to you.”

I remembered climaxing in my sleep, and I hoped Leo hadn’t heard me. It wasn’t the first time I’d had a nocturnal orgasm, but it had been the first where I’d needed to worry about a man overhearing me.

Leo didn’t say a word about me moving into the bedroom. At first, I thought perhaps he hadn’t noticed, but then I spotted his shoes at the side of the bed. I frowned. That was strange. Why would he have put his shoes there?

I could still smell the saltiness of his cum on my skin and hair. I was desperate for a shower, but still I hesitated. Would he let me shower alone? Or would he want to watch?

I didn’t like how that made me feel. Shamed at myself, I guessed. Though I was telling myself I’d done what I had last night to manipulate him, there was no denying my body had responded. He must have worked his way into my subconscious as well for me to have had the sort of dreams about him that I’d had.

Feeling shy and self-conscious, I entered the main part of the cabin. Leo was in the kitchen with his back to me. I spotted my pyjama bottoms in a heap near the now dead fireplace.

“I’ll be taking you out of the country today,” he said, not turning around.

I didn’t know how he knew I was there.

“Okay.”

He faced me, both hands on the worktop behind him, leaning his weight into it so his biceps bulged against the arms of the white shirt that was now rolled up his forearms. “Is that all you have to say?”

I jutted out my chin. “What do you expect me to say?”

“I’d expected you to cry and beg me to let you go.”

“Where would I go? Back to my father? I already told you how I felt about that. I wasn’t lying.”

He stared at me with those ice-blue eyes. “You must be insane if you think staying with me is your best option.”

“Then I must be insane.”

He looked as though he was considering that possibility for a moment and then said, “I need to get you some clothes. You can’t go like that.”

I glanced down at the minimal outfit of knickers and camisole I was currently wearing. “Yes, I don’t think this will work. Where are you going to get clothes from?”

He scrubbed his fingers through his growing beard. “I haven’t worked that out yet, but I will.” He faced back to the counter. “I made some coffee.”

“Thanks.”

“Are you hungry, too?”

“A little,” I admitted.

Why was he being kind to me? This didn’t seem like the man who’d shoved me away from him the previous night. I was distrusting of him, understandably. Had he realised he’d attracted more flies with honey than vinegar? I’d tried to manipulate him into liking me so that I might have a chance, and perhaps that had made him think that if he was a little nicer to me, it would make the events of the next twenty-four hours run a lot smoother?

He handed me coffee and a white bread sandwich filled with smoked ham. “It’s not much, but it’ll have to do.”

“It’s fine. Thank you.”

I carried the coffee and sandwich over to the dining table, and Leo sat opposite. He placed his gun beside him on the table like a silent threat. Through the window beyond, the day had dawned unseasonably warm, the sky blue, reflecting on the blue of the lake. We ate in silence, tension between us. I didn’t know what to say to him. It wasn’t as though we could exchange pleasantries about the weather. This man had kidnapped me and strangled me, but then later that day had covered my nipple with his mouth and pushed his fingers inside me. I was so fucked up to even think about wanting him to do that again, but I did.

There was one thing I wanted to ask him. “I-I was hoping I might be able to take a shower.”

He arched an eyebrow, unsmiling. “Did you now?”

“If you want to get me into your country, I should probably look more respectable. Last night you made a mess of my hair.”

His gaze flicked up to my head. I was sure there would be hardened patches where his cum had hit me, but they probably weren’t visible.
