She wasn’t sure what that meant, but she nodded, a different kind of warmth flooding her; he wasn’t going to leave her on her own, knowing what this night was to her.

“I need the words, Day.”

“Yes, Mac.”

A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he pressed, “What about my cock?”

She blinked. “Are you serious?”

“I need to know your boundaries, Cassidy.”

She shifted, rolling to face him. He accommodated her, pulling her to him, his hand roaming down to caress her ass. Looking up into his eyes, she answered, “I have no idea where my boundaries would be. I would imagine something vanilla, and I’ll wake up in aFifty Shades of Greynightmare.”

“I’m not interested in nightmares; too many of those going around. The only screams I want out of you are the ones caused by pleasure.”

Her cheeks colored at his frankness, by the memory ofhisscreams. But she answered, “For the record, you can wake me any way you wish, Mac Boyer.”

Chapter forty-two

Cassidy

LIKE A FUCKING ZOMBIE

Dragginghereyesopen, she was met with intensely staring brown eyes that were both wary and irritated. She startled at the proximity and the level of concentration of his perusal. She blinked rapidly to dispel the fogginess of sleep.

Mac blinked back, appearing equally startled. “You’re awake.”

Baffled by the comment, she responded, “Of course I am. And you’re staring at me like a serial killer.”

A smile made its way across his lips as he perused her face, returning his eyes to hers. “You’re the creepy one when you sleep.”

Offended, she reached out and slapped his arm. “What?”

Chuckling, he pushed her hand away. “You sleep with your eyes open.”

She made a face, squeezing her eyes shut.

“Been lying here watching you stare at me. Freakiest shit I’ve seen in a while. Like a fucking zombie, Day.”

Cassidy slapped a hand over her face, her shoulders beginning to shake with a small laugh. “I’m so sorry; I forgot to warn you.”

“What the hell is that about?”

“My eyes don’t stay open,” she defended herself. “I look, but that’s it.”

He raised a brow. “I think you need a second opinion, sweetheart.”

“Elijah said…” She stopped, anxiety sweeping through her. Was there a protocol for talking about your husband in bed? She felt like she was betraying one of them, and her confusion was that she wasn’t sure who. And she’d yelled at Mac the last time Elijah was mentioned when they were in a similar situation.

Mac reached out and caressed her cheek, his dark eyes gentle as he prompted, “What’d he say?”

She hesitated, but he didn’t look anything other than curious, so she finished, “Elijah used to say I couldn’t keep my eyes off him, so I had to keep peeking in my sleep.”

Mac smiled. “Then I’m fucking flattered you’ve been staring.”

Cassidy rolled her eyes. “I wasn’t staring.”

“There was a contest. I lost,” he teased. “Normally, you look around, but this time, it was a definite stare.”
