“Yes, yes, yes!” a muffled voice cried. It was obvious what she was screaming, and it was my fault, really. Or my blessing. She sure sounded like she was enjoying herself. Being around a succubus was hard for humans. Over time, they would find themselves hornier, their libidos influenced by my presence. I was the literal embodiment of attraction, lust, and seduction. That was a potent mix to be around.
Humans seemed more susceptible than other races. I spent little time around them for that reason. Trent was doing very well in resisting it. Although, I’d collected a small amount of lust from him this morning when he jacked off in his room. That’s what I assumed he was doing. From how hard he was blushing, I doubted he’d even been kissed.
“Do you have plans today?” I asked. It was Saturday, and I was glad the week was over. I hoped to have time to see Kellen and Pastor Young tomorrow. Possibly have a repeat of our fun the other day.
“I have work,” he muttered, pulling at his collar.
“Oh, what do you do?” I questioned, feigning interest. Really, I was focusing on collecting the gathering lust from the couple who were enjoying themselves in the bedroom.
Trent pushed back from the table with a wince as aunt made another hoarse cry from the bedroom.
“I can’t do this.” He snatched up his jacket and raced to the front door. I watched his retreating back bemused. That was sure to confuse any poor boy, hearing your parents going at it.
My phone rang and I answered it.
“Landon,” I drawled, and my best friend let out a hearty laugh.
“That is the sound of a succubus who has had an orgasm,” he hedged. “Do you have an apology for me?”
“I’m sorry Landon, oh mighty one, I bow down to your wisdom. Repressed is right, but you will never guess what I’ve stumbled upon in this town.”
“Can’t be more interesting than corrupting an innocent Christian boy, surely? Give me the details.”
“Well, it was one Christian boyandhis pastor,” I gloated, enjoying the whistle of appreciation that Landon gave. “But yes, the boy is something special.”
My throat tightened, and I hesitated for a moment. My heart was still smarting from what happened with Reeve, but I had to look forward, not backward. Kellen wouldn’t be able to stay here, not without driving everyone around him crazy. But even with his true form, he would become like me, hunted for his rarity, and coveted like an object. It would be crueler to leave him. That was what I had decided. When I left here, I was taking him with me.
“He’s an incubus,” I whispered. It was the first time I’d spoken about it out loud. When he’d first taken my powers, I’d been surprised and suspicious. Him being an incubus? It seemed too fantastical to be true. Succubi were rare enough, only a few hundred of us existed, but incubi? There were only a mere handful, and they were locked down and exploited for their powers, just like we were. Being able to inspire lust was very handy for those who needed to control people.
I waited, my breath held for his explosive reaction, but he burst out laughing.
“God, you’re a cheeky bitch sometimes,” he chuckled, like I’d told him a joke.
“I’m being serious Landon,” I huffed, annoyed that he would think I would joke about this. He laughed again, choking on his mirth.
“Could you imagine the irony? An incubus in a repressed Christian boy’s body? It’s the stuff of nightmares!”
“Exactly,” I sighed. “Not something I’d be joking about. Can you imagine if Reeve got his hands on him?” I shivered at the thought.
“Allera,” Landon sounded strange, like his words were strangled. “I suppose this explains how you ended up with a pastorandhim. You must be charging up nicely.”
“I want my stores bloated with power, and I think it will take some time to convince my brethren that it’s in his best interest to come with me. He’s got a very warped view of lust as you can imagine.”
“Allera, this is huge.” Landon sucked in a deep breath. “What’s the plan?”
“I know, I know, I didn’t believe it at first, but there’s no denying it. Our powers together? I’ve felt nothing like it, and we didn’t even have sex. I can’t wait to unleash him. But I need to gain his trust first. He doesn’t know what he is. Or what I am. He thinks what he is feeling are sinful urges and he’s torn up by shame.”
“Ugh, religion strikes again.” Landon clicked his tongue.
“Also, what kind of church is this? Someone called the Prophet is coming and as far as I knew, that wasn’t the way churches worked.”
“Let’s just say it’s a wild little offshoot that someone got their greedy hands on many years ago. It’s harmless, if a little extreme. Anyway,” he changed the subject hastily, “what do you need from me?”
“Has he mentioned anything to you?” I asked, chewing my nail. He knew who I was talking about. There were very few ‘he’s’ that registered in my life after I’d finished with them. Landon was one, and the other was Reeve. Silence fell between us. Long enough to make me want to blurt out apologies. Landon and I skirted a fine line considering he was my best friend and Reeve had betrayed me. I’d asked for his help as a last resort after Reeve’s ambush and he did, despite still being close to his brother.
“He’s deep in his moping,” he admitted finally, but I could tell he was holding back. “What if I could get you in a room together, guarantee your safety? Would you hear him out?”
I scrunched my face up, fumbling with the phone.
