He smiled. “My gear is better.”

“Who else? Jilted girlfriends, jealous husbands?”

Bennett scowled. “No girlfriends, and I don’t sleep with married women.” He stared through the windshield. “I probably made some enemies from my time in the military. But they’d all be in Afghanistan, and they shouldn’t know who I am.”

She crossed her legs. “I’ll send the info to Hex. She’s good at digging, so we’ll see if anything pings.”

“Kitty is our best lead.”

“Yes.”

They had to get it right tonight.

“Killian has brought in another Sentinel Security member, Bram O’Donovan. They’ll both be there tonight. We won’t see them unless we need them.”

Bennett sure as hell wouldn’t turn down help from Killian Hawke.

They reached the Countess Theatre, and traffic slowed to a crawl. The sidewalks were filled with people out for an evening of fun.

Bennett pulled up in front of the old building, noting that there were some paparazzi snapping shots of people entering the theatre.

He stepped out of the car, and flashes erupted.

“Knightley, who’s your date?” someone called out.

“Knightley, this way.” Shutter snaps filled the air.

He ignored them and helped Hadley out of the car. More flashes exploded. She expertly kept her head lowered and face obscured.

Henry emerged from the crowd and took Bennett’s keys.

“Hi, Henry,” Hadley said.

“You look nice.” He glanced at Bennett. “You’re fucked.”

Bennett nodded at his friend. “Thanks for the pep talk.”

He took Hadley’s arm and led her inside. The lobby was crowded with people sipping drinks. He took her coat and checked it. He couldn’t stop his gaze wandering over her bare shoulders.

Hadley cast a discreet scan across the crowd. “I don’t see our friend.”

“Let’s get to our seats. We’ll have a good view from there.”

He led her up the curved stairs, nodding hellos to people, but not stopping.

He led Hadley into a small private box.

“Oh, this is nice,” she said.

They were shrouded in darkness in the box, but had an excellent view of not only the stage, but the tiers of seats below.

A few people were already seated, but most of the seats were still empty.

Bennett sat, and took a few breaths. Anticipation was winging through him, like it always did right before a mission.

He really wanted to find this bastard. Desperately.

Hadley took his hand. “We’ve got this.”
