Matteo broke into laughter.

“Matteo!” Hex cried. “Your phone will stop working if you aren’t careful.”

Killian cleared his throat. “Shade plays by his own rules.”

“Oh, I know.” Hex looked right at Killian. “He also said to tell you that he hasn’t heard from Hellfire.”

Killian frowned. “What?”

“She was supposed to check in twenty-four hours ago, but she didn’t. Shade said if you hear from her, to let him know.”

With a muttered curse, Killian headed back toward his office. “I’ll meet you guys at the bar. I need to make a few calls first.”

Bennett watched the man go. “Only a man with nerves of steel could take on that redhead.”

Hadley smiled. “I know.”

Hex glared at her tablet. “I’ll give Shade a challenge, the asshole.”

“Come on, Hex, I’ll buy you a cocktail,” Bennett said.

“Or three,” the hacker replied.

As everyone gathered their bags and jackets, Bennett pulled Hadley aside.

“I got you something.”

“Bennett.” Her voice was exasperated. “You got me lingerie last week.”

He held up a long, narrow box and opened it. The bracelet was made of shining platinum, with a heart pendant jewel attached. It was a light blue.

She sighed. “It’s beautiful.”

“It’s the color of your eyes. It signifies that you hold my heart.”

She shook her head, love in her eyes, and held out her hand. He fastened it on her slender wrist.

“It’s beautiful. Is it topaz or aquamarine?”

“Um…”

“Bennett. Dammit, it’s a sapphire, isn’t it? It must have cost a fortune.”

He decided to stay quiet since it was a blue diamond. It also matched the stone he was going to have made into her engagement ring.

He might keep that bit to himself for now.

“I love you, Ms. Lockwood.” He pulled her close.

“I love you too, Mr. Knightley.”

He pressed his mouth to hers. “Never letting you go.”

“Then it’s a good thing I never want you to let me go.”

“Drinks!” Hex yelled. “Stop canoodling, you two, I need a cocktail.”

With a laugh, Bennett tucked Hadley under his arm and followed their friends.
