“What the hell happened, Bennett?” Henry crouched on the other side, worry on his face as he stared at the bullet holes in Bennett’s shirt.

“Fuck, Henry. Westley…it’s Paul. Paul Davies.”

Henry sucked in a breath. “He’s dead.”

Bennett shook his head. Killian was loosening his vest and suddenly Bennett could breathe.

“It’s Paul. He survived and was taken prisoner. He blames me.”

“Christ.” Henry scraped a hand over his head.

Bennett met Killian’s gaze. “Paul wants to punish me. Everything he’s done has been to hurt me.”

Killian’s face was grim. “Okay, let’s get you on your feet.”

Killian and Henry helped Bennett upright. His vision swam for a second, but the pain wasn’t quite as bad now.

“Guys,” Hex’s voice in their earpieces. “Our bad guy must have a jammer. I can’t contact Hadley.”

“I need a weapon,” Bennett said.

Henry frowned. “You should stay here—”

“No.” He cut Henry off. “Paul hasmywoman. I’m not losing her.”

The intense man with the tawny eyes and hair stepped forward, and held out a Glock to Bennett.

The man winked. “I’m a sucker for true love.”

The redhead made a sound. “Since when?”

Bennett ignored them and checked the weapon. “He took her into the trees. She’s handcuffed.”

“He must have a vehicle close by,” Bram said.

“Two teams,” Killian said. “I’ll go with Bennett and Henry. Bram, you’re with Shade and Hellfire.”

They all nodded and headed outside.

“Killian, I can confirm he took her into the woods heading south,” Hex said. “I saw it from an exterior camera, but I’ve lost visual now.”

“Acknowledged, Hex,” Killian said. “We’ll find her.”

“Bring her home,” Hex said.

Bennett blocked the stabbing pain in his chest and jogged toward the woods, flanked by Killian and Henry.

His mouth pressed into a flat line. He couldn’t believe Paul was alive.

Damn. They’d left him. He suffered unimaginable horrors. Bennett had seen the results of torture over there.

Sorrow hit him.

If he’d known…

But he hadn’t. He’d grieved for Paul and Hamed. He’d tried to make a difference with Secura in their honor.

No matter what he’d been through, Paul didn’t get to come back and destroy other people’s lives. Like he’d destroyed Archie, Ajay, and even Kitty Wentworth, just because he’d suffered so greatly.
