She plastered her body against his side. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to sound bitchy. You didn’t let me get a lot of sleep last night.”
He didn’t relax, but he quit scowling.
“I’ll see you tonight.”
She smiled and waved.
As Rage drove home, he couldn’t get over the feeling that he was doing something wrong. It wouldn’t just affect him but the family. He’d have to think about it and maybe spend more time with her.
Time would tell if he was making the biggest mistake of his life or not.
Chapter Five
Harley pulled into the compound and breathed a sigh of relief. She was finally home. She was glad she was able to help her aunt until she died, but these people were always on her mind. Fortunately, she and Amelia had kept in touch. It helped with the loneliness.
Everything had gone smoothly. No one had seen her ex since he beat her, but she would never let her guard down until she knew he was dead.
She waved at some guys outside before she walked into the kitchen and smiled as the women screamed and raced toward her. They surrounded her and hugged her tightly. She felt tears start to fill her eyes at the feeling of being home.
“We were so sad to hear about your aunt,” Tara said.
“My aunt’s at peace now. She was in so much pain at the end. It was hard to watch and not be able to make her feel better.”
“I went through that with my dad,” Amelia said.
“Did you have a funeral?” Zoe asked.
“Yes, a small one. I’ve sold everything I didn’t want and came here.”
“We’re so glad you did,” Lindsey said. “We’ve got some more women for you to meet. They’re all at the store right now.”
“The store?”
“Yes. We built a small convenience store out back for the guys. You’re going to love it,” Tara said.
“I’m excited. Amelia has been telling me some things, so I’m anxious to meet them,” Harley said.
“Do you need help with your things?” Zoe asked.
“Yes. Do I get the same room?”
“Absolutely,” Amelia said.
“And Fury knows I was coming back?”
“Yes,” a deep voice said behind her.
Harley twirled and faced Fury. She wondered if she would ever feel comfortable around him. “Hi. Thank you so much for letting me come back.”
“You’re family now,” Fury said.
Harley had to fight the overwhelming emotion those three words meant to her. “I have some money from the sale of my aunt’s house. Can I give that to you as rent or something?”
Fury wrapped an arm around Amelia’s waist. “No, you keep that. The work you’ll do here is what we want. Not your money.”
“Thank you. Just know it’s there if you ever need it.”
Fury nodded at her and then kissed Amelia’s temple. “I’ll be in the office.”
