“Okay, but I apologize in advance for wasting your time. I am definitely not pregnant.”

After she was done with Michael’s exam she gave me a cup to go and pee in. I used the bathroom that was attached to her office.

When I got out I handed her the cup and took Michael from her. She excused herself and went to go test my urine.

I wasn’t nervous per say, I was sure it would come back negative. But there was a tiny crumb of doubt occupying the back of my mind. No, no, I thought to myself. I took my pills every day at the same time. I never skipped a day.It will come back negative.

A selfish part of me didn’t want it to be positive because that would make walking away so much harder.

After a long wait Dr. Harper walked back in. She sat in her chair on the other side of her desk and looked at me. Her face was unreadable.

“It’s positive, you’re pregnant. I would say you are about six or so weeks along.” Dr. Harper said in a soft tone. “Now I’m not sure if you and Mr. Farrington were trying but I think this is…”

Her voice faded into the distance as the words ‘you’re pregnant’ kept replaying in my mind over and over again.

Michael had started drifting off to sleep in his stroller and as the words kept repeating themselves, my hand instinctively went to my flat belly. I was pregnant with Gabriel’s baby.

The first emotion that hit me was shock. Happiness ensued, but was quickly replaced by confusion, sadness, and fear. I was clearly experiencing a flurry of emotions all at the same time and I didn’t know how to deal with them.

“Brianna?” Dr. Harper brought me out of my stupor.

“Yes?”

“My friend, Dr.Gupta is upstairs. He is an amazing OBGYN. He could do a scan for you if you’d like to see how the baby is doing and get a better idea of how far along you are?”

“Umm…yeah sure that sounds great. We can do that.”

When I woke up this morning this nowhere near how I thought my day was going to go, but here we were.

There were so many questions that still needed to be answered. One thing was for certain, I was going to keep this baby. I just wasn’t sure I wanted it to be a part of the Farrington dynasty.I had a lot to think about.

BIG SURPRISES

Gabriel

I ran my fingers along the rim of the whiskey glass and waited for my parents to make their appearance. They had no idea I was coming.

It was no secret I hated the estate. I didn’t have many fond memories here aside from the odd one or two. But even then, those memories were tainted by the reality of who my parents truly were. It had taken me a few days to get everything I needed in order but it was finally done. I had made a vow to Brianna that I would make them all pay and today I was making good on my promise.

My parents walked into the dining room expecting to see their dinner ready but instead they found me sitting at the head of the table.

“Gabriel?” My mother smiled at me. “What a wonderful surprise. If you had told me you were coming I would have asked them to prepare another place for you. “Why isn’t the table set? Vivian!”

“Sit down mother. I sent Vivian home.”

“Why would you do that?” My father said irritated. “This is not your home, Gabriel.”

“As of this afternoon it is.” I slid the file across the table toward him.

“What are you on about?” He furrowed his brows. He grabbed the file and flipped it open. All he needed to do was read through the first couple of lines and he would know. “What the hell is this?!”

“I think it’s time we talk. Please sit.”

My mother walked over to my father and peered over his shoulder. When she read the first few lines her eyes went wide.

“You think you are taking ownership of the house?” She looked at me completely gobsmacked. “You can’t take the house. It doesn’t belong to you.”
