There was something about Thomas that I just... liked. He was the kind of guy who probably had a million friends, but each one of them would consider him theirbest friend. “That would be nice,” I said. “Thank you.”

He waved me off as we began walking into the building. “It isn’t a problem at all. We’re going to the same place.”

We chatted more in the elevator—small talk kind of things that were meant to distract me from the absoluteclimbwe were enduring. When we got to the firm, he waved at the administrative assistant who was perched at a desk just outside the door, and then we were walking through a glass set of doors into the office itself.

Despite wanting to be a lawyer for most of my life, I had a pitiful amount of experience being in an office like this. I thought working on the executive side of Hollywood was busy, but there was a hum in the air that just felt alive. I noticed that the people walking between offices were practically speed-walking. “It’s only eight o’clock in the morning,” I mused. “How is it this busy?”

Beside me, Thomas laughed. “This is nothing,” he said. “Wait until we’ve got a high-profile case. It’s chaos.” He glanced at me. “Are you ready for it?”

“I am,” I said, and that dark eyebrow arched upward again. “I’ve worked for the last year in an executive office for a production company. It was basically like being on call twenty-four, seven for the most unlikable people I’ve ever met.”

“And you think you’ll likelawyersmore?” he asked, smiling.

I shrugged. “I plan to be one someday, so I should hope so.”

“Oh, so you’re one ofthose,” he said.

I looked up at him. “One of what?”

“A lawyer type.”

I smiled. “I hope to be.”

We stopped outside an office suite withZachary Wagneron the door. “This is our stop,” Thomas said. “Zach does all the paralegal interviews. It’s where he got his start, too.”

That was something of a relief. “Thank you for walking me up here. I didn’t even notice the view.”

“Anytime, Ms. Beechum.” He waved and kept on walking, and I couldn’t help but watch him as he left. Where Jake had been so handsome that I almost couldn’t breathe around him, Thomas was laid-back. Still gorgeous, but a little more approachable.

What in the hell is wrong with you?My brain practically screamed at me.You already slept with one potential boss, and now you’re checking out another? The shame spiraled up from my stomach. I had been doing my level-best not to think about Jake and our night together, but standing in this office, it was proving to be impossible.

I took a breath and pulled open the heavy glass door that led to the outer office of Mr. Zachary Wagner. A drop-dead gorgeous blonde was sitting behind the small desk, working on her computer. She looked up as I came through and put on that big, professional smile that I had perfected working for Tinsley. “Hi, do you have an appointment?” she asked.

“I have an interview with Mr. Wagner at 8:30,” I said, digging my ID out of my wallet and handing it to her. “I’m Alexandra Beechum.”

The woman looked at my ID and then at her computer. After a moment of scrolling, she nodded. “I see you now,” she said. “Mr. Jacobs penciled in this interview last-minute, so it didn’t quite register to me.” She pointed to the collection of white furniture set to the side of the room. “If you’ll take a seat, I’ll inform Mr. Wagner that you’re here.”

“Thank you,” I said and sat on the edge of one of the chairs.

Normally, I would be nervous for a job interview, but I felt strangely calm sitting here. I knew my resume was strong, and Tinsley had given me the absolute best recommendation letter.Besides, Jake outright offered you the job, I thought. I had been the one to insist on the interview. I had seen far too much nepotism working with the Hollywood crowd to ever truly be comfortable with it, but knowing that I’d probably be offered the job did take some of the weight off.

Not that it made me feel particularlygoodabout myself, either.

“Ms. Beechum?” I looked over to the blonde woman. That same professional smile was back in place. “Mr. Wagner will see you now.”

I stood and followed her as she opened the door to the inner office. The man sitting behind his desk, flipping through the papers in a file, looked up.Where is the law firm finding these men?Seriously, this is the third partner that I’ve met, and each one has been so gorgeous that they’re hard to look at. Like Thomas, Zachary had dark eyes and dark hair, but he was more pretty, like Jake. Even sitting down, I could see that he had an amazing body.

“Mr. Wagner, this is Alexandra Beechum,” she introduced. “She’s here for her interview.”

He smiled and stood, and I nearly swallowed my tongue. His smile lit up his face, but I could tell that he wasn’t completely used to smiling. “Thanks, Carrie Anne,” he said, dismissing his assistant. “Hi, Ms. Beechum.” He held out his hand to me, and I shook it. “I’m Zach Wagner. Please, call me Zach.”

I heard the door close behind me. “Call me Alex,” I said, not taking my eyes off the man in front of me.

Zach gestured for me to sit. “So, Jake told me that you worked with his son’s new wife?”

It sounded so innocuous like that—as if Ryan and Tinsley had a normal relationship that didn’t include three other men. I nodded. “I was Tinsley’s assistant for a year.”

He made ahmmsound as he looked over my resume. “Why switch from PR to law if you’ve had a great job for the last year?”
