I moved up and kissed her, deep and slow, and I didn’t stop until she sighed against my mouth.

“Make love to me?” Alex asked.

Our lips met again before we separated, each pulling at our own clothes until everything had been tossed onto the floor. I rolled her beneath me, angling her hips up and wrapping her thighs around me. Pressed as I was against her, I could feel her wetness. “How are you always so ready for me?” I asked.

Alex let out a little groan and buried her face in my neck. “I can’t help it,” she whined. “I’ve been thinking about this since lunch.”

I laughed and tipped her face back so that I was looking down at her. “Believe me, baby, not a one of us is complaining,” I said and angled myself so that, with a thrust of my hips, I was seated inside her.

Alex let out a long moan, and her hips bucked against mine. “Why is it always good?” she asked. “You always feelsogood.” I began rocking my hips against hers, and she met me thrust for thrust.

“Because we’re good together,” I told her, thrusting a little faster to hear that hitch in her breathing. “You were fucking made for me.”

She tossed her head against the bed, and her fingers dug into my shoulders. We moved together, creating this delicious friction that spiraled higher and higher until we were both panting into each other’s mouths. “Make me come,” she begged. “Make me—”

I ground my hips so that my pelvis rubbed against her clit, and she cried out as she flew over the edge. She went tight around me, and I couldn’t hold back anymore. I buried my face in her shoulder and rode out the sensations that washed over me. “I love you,” I said in her ear. “I love you.”

We lay there, panting and soaking up each other’s skin pressed against our own, and I felt her lips tickle at my forehead. “I love you too.”

THOMAS

The media circus had begun, and I regretted ever agreeing to play associate for Jake. Walking through screaming paparazzi, thankfully kept out of the building by the security, each morning was getting to me.

I was a friendly man, and I greeted people every morning, but having to push my way into my workplace was making me cranky, and it showed. “Morning, Thom—” It was a junior associate whom I knew by name, but today, I couldn’t think of it.

I held up my hand in a half wave, but I couldn’t force myself to smile or to stop and do the morning chit-chat. Instead, I went to my office and walked past Trevor without a word. He was becoming accustomed to my moods, so he wisely kept working on whatever homework HR had him doing to get off probation.

As soon as I sat down at my desk, I knew that I wasn’t going to get anything done. I couldn’t focus enough to read my damn email. How was I going to get things done today? I picked up my phone and pressed the button to connect me to Trevor’s desk. “Yeah, Boss?”

“What’s my schedule like today? Any meetings with clients?”

I heard Trevor typing, and then, “You had one scheduled for the afternoon, but it’s not an emergency. I can call and have it shifted to another day.”

“Do it, please,” I said. “Then, make a note on the calendar that I am going to work from home for the rest of the day. I’ll be available for Zoom calls, but I won’t be in the building.”

I grabbed the few files that I would need to get through the day and the work laptop that I almost never used, and then I was heading back out into the fray of reporters, who jostled and screamed like they were entitled to some kind of sound bite. One shoved his camera in my face, almost threatening. “Are you one of Hunter Bailey’s lawyers?” the man asked. “Has the trial date been set? Has—”

The questions set my teeth on edge. What I wanted to say wasgo fuck yourself, but the lawyer in me wouldn’t allow that to happen, so I settled for, “I have no comment at this time,” which had been the party line since we’d agreed to take on the case.

The drive to my condo was silent. I didn’t bother putting on the radio because the news would just remind me of what I left. I was nearly home when my phone rang. “Porter,” I said by way of greeting, thinking it was a work call.

“Thomas?” It was Alex. My chest loosened, and I could take a proper breath. God, what this woman did to me. “Trevor said that you left work. Are you okay?”

“Yeah, sweetheart,” I said. “I’m fine. I just needed to get out of there for a little while. I’m going to work from home for today... and maybe tomorrow, if I can beg off from my meetings.”

I couldn’t and knew it, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t try. “Do you need some company?” Alex asked. “I was only coming in to help Naomi with something, but we’re done now, and I really should study. I figured... we could share the quiet?”

Sharing the quiet with the girl I was fairly certain I was in love with? Sounded like Heaven to me. “That sounds amazing, sweetheart,” I said. “Can I get you anything on my way home? Coffee?”

“I’ve got that covered,” she said. “See you soon?”

I nodded even though she couldn’t see it. “Soon,” I promised right before the call disconnected.

I hung out in the lobby of my building once I got back. There was no reason for me to go all the way up to my condo if I was going to come right back down again. While Alex seemed to be getting better about the work elevator, she still truly disliked getting into them, and the one in my building had a glass wall so that you could see the city skyline. It was one of the reasons I bought my condo... and it was the one thing that gave Alex the most panic.

She came through the doors some ten minutes later, and her eyes immediately found me. Her lips curled into the smile that made my stomach weak and my cock hard. I held out a hand, and she scampered across the lobby to take it. “Thank you for letting me intrude on your quiet time,” she said as we walked onto the elevator together. She stood with her back to the glass wall and kept her eyes on mine.
