“Got the images here. And some of the cash, it will need to be counted but there’s got to be at least thirty grand missing.” Zander held out the envelope to Ammo. “You’re going to go deliver this.”
Ammo raised his eyebrow.
“What happened to the rest of the cash?” the woman asked.
“There was more in it earlier,” she said, even as she told herself to shut up. She didn’t owe these people anything. “Carl must have taken the rest with him.”
“Liar.”
Okay, she and the giant were going to have a problem. She glared up at him. He scowled back.
Jerk.
“Ammo? Envelope. Return it,” Zander said sharply.
“What about the missing money?” the woman asked. “Will they want us to find it?”
“They were more concerned about the photos.”
Who was they? Bartolli or Reyes? And what exactly was in those photos? Carl hadn’t let her see them.
What had Carl gotten them mixed up in?
“Go,” Zander ordered. “I’ll call. Let them know what’s going on.”
“What about her?” the woman asked. “Don’t we need to deliver her too?”
“That is what we agreed to do,” Zander mused.
“You hoping to use her to get the other guy to sneak out of the sewer?” she asked.
“Maybe.”
“We don’t need her,” Ammo said. “And I’d be happy to deliver her.”
She shivered. This guy was seriously scary.
Zander shook his head. “No, not yet. Go.”
“Wait. I need to go with him,” she insisted reluctantly.
“No.”
The woman watched her with interest. Keira thought she was going to say something, but all she did was blow a big bubble. The smell of grape hit her. Ick. She hated grape bubblegum.
“But I have to go. Unless, you’re going to take me to Bartolli?” she asked Zander.
“Um, what?” The other woman looked at Zander. “We’re taking her to Bartolli?”
“I need to make a call,” Zander replied. “Ammo, leave.”
The big guy gave her one last, long look before turning away. As soon as he’d left the room, it felt like she could breathe again. Zander moved outside as well. She could see him through the window on his phone.
“Ammo’s scary, huh?” the woman asked her.
But Keira didn’t trust the friendly note in her voice. It was likely a ruse. A way to get her guard down.
Yeah, Keira wasn’t that stupid.
