“Do you know where my phone is?” I asked.
“Your phone?”
“Yeah.”
She turned off the sink and wiped her hands on the kitchen towel before trekking into my room and emerging a moment later with my cell in hand.
She was my angel though … wasn’t she? I mean, she would be for the next four weeks until I was fully healed.
I reached for the phone, almost forgetting I was injured.. “Can you dial the last number on this phone?”
She did and placed the phone on my ear, holding it there at first, before resting it against my shoulder.
“Logan …”
Her eyes met mine meaningfully as I leaned back against the chair.
“How did surgery go? You okay?” he asked.
“Yep. Surgery went fine. I’m out for four weeks till Los Angeles.”
Sydney sat back on her seat, resting her chin on her hand.
“Real quick. I know that I mentioned the Loverly Ad Agency on our last call.”
“Yeah …” His voice trailed off.
Logan was still reluctant to go with a smaller firm. He’d spewed out data I didn’t care too much for.
“We’re using this company, Logan,” I said firmly. He couldn’t do the company without me. “That’s the deal.”
“Good gosh, man. Are you screwing the owner or something? Is that what’s going on here? Why this particular firm?” Logan asked.
I closed my eyes, now really hoping Sydney couldn’t hear. “I can guarantee you, I’m not.”Not like the thought hadn’t crossed my mind—multiple times. “They’re good and reputable and talented. Nothing more.”
“Fine.”
“Good,” I said, feeling victorious. “I’ll have their people get in touch with your assistant, so they can draw up the contract.”
“Send me the info tomorrow. I gotta go.” I could hear the loud bass coming in from wherever he was at. At a club, a bar, or his house, throwing a house party. I was sure if I wanted to find out, all I would have to do was go on social media.
The rag mags loved me sometimes—when I was injured, if I was dating a local celebrity. But they loved Logan Tyler all the time. He sold magazines by the millions because he was a good-looking bad boy and damn good at his job, which was how he made the big bucks.
“Did he agree?” Sydney asked anxiously when I hung up the phone.
I couldn’t help my grin that spread from ear to ear. “Yeah.”
She clasped her hands together and hopped in her seat. “Oh, Austin. Thank you. Thank you so much.” Her genuine smile surfaced again, leaving me stupid and speechless.
This seemed to be my new norm around this woman, but as she started wiping down the table, I knew this was more than infatuation or getting her into my bed. I was in deeper shit than that. I was starting to like this woman, and this could not be good since the wound from the stake Brandy had lodged in Alec’s heart was still very fresh.
CHAPTER19
SYDNEY
“You’re getting in late,”Lyria commented, her curious eyes landing on me from where she sat on the couch. An episode ofThe Officewas playing on our flat screen television that was mounted to the wall.
“Yeah,” I said.
