“I think we had a pretty good time,” said April with a smile. “And you know you’re welcome to come with.”

“Yeah!” said Willa, her face lighting up. “We went to the museum, and then we went to the park. And I met some cool people, and April saw her friend.”

A strange expression appeared for a moment on April’s face, like Willa had said something she didn’t want me to know.

“A friend?” I asked, unable to resist.

“Um, yeah. Just this guy I knew from school.” She tucked her hair behind her ear nervously.

“I bet it was a boyfriend,” said Willa with a smile. “She said it wasn’t, but it probably was.”

There was a good chance she was right. As curious as I was, I didn’t want to press the issue. April was my employee, but she still deserved some privacy.

“All right,” I said. “You heard April. Start getting ready for bed.”

“OK, OK,” said Willa. She hopped off the barstool and headed off, her footsteps growing quieter as she went up the stairs.

Then it was just me and April.

“Good afternoon?” I asked, sitting down next to her.

Being near her was incredible. There was a pull between us, one I couldn’t ignore. I knew it was dangerous, and I knew I had to keep myself in check.

“Yeah,” she said. “Willa, she’s interested in a lot of stuff.”

“That I know. She spends a lot of time by herself, most of it reading or watching videos about whatever’s got her interest at that moment. I’m glad for it, but it makes me wonder if she’s not spending enough time with kids her own age.” I raised my beer. “Something to drink? I’m headed to the patio.” As soon as the words left my mouth, I knew they shouldn’t have. Having a drink with April…I could only imagine what that might lead to. Not to mention she might be nervous about getting too casual with the boss.

“That sounds nice, actually. If you don’t mind.”

“Sure,” I said. “Finish up getting Willa into bed and join me. It’s on the second floor, through the office.”

She smiled. “OK. I’ll meet you out there.”

Fuck—I couldn’t help myself. April flashed me one more gorgeous grin before climbing down from the barstool and heading off.

Without thinking, I turned, watching her leave. Her ass looked killer in her dress, the fabric hugging it tightly and putting right into my head the image of her bent over in front of me, my cock buried in her pussy as I fucked her hard from behind.

Come on. First day and you’re already thinking about things you shouldn’t.

Maybe it was a bad idea, but I couldn’t help myself.

I finished off my beer, and when I was done, I grabbed a bottle of red wine from the rack, along with a pair of glasses and an opener. That all in hand, I went upstairs. I took a quick peek into Willa’s room, the walls adorned with posters of all sorts of animals from dinosaurs to pandas to koalas.

Again, I found myself watching Willa and April.

“Can you get Michael?”

April stopped short, clearly surprised. “You want…who?” It seemed like a strange reaction to the name.

“Michael,” said Willa, already under the covers. “He’s my stuffed koala.” She pointed to the stuffed koala among her things.

“Oh,” said April. “Yeah, of course.”

April turned from the bed and headed over to where Michael was, a startled expression on her face. It seemed strange, but then, I hardly knew her.

The expression vanished when she saw I was there, a forced smile replacing it.

“Hey,” she said. “Just getting the kiddo to bed.”
