His kiss was full of passion and hunger, and I matched it with my own desire, stroke for stroke. What his lips did to me was unmatched, and it made me realize all other kisses before this one had been a poor practice. The way my body responded to his was unlike anything I’d experienced in the past.

When he had thoroughly explored the corners of my mouth and the shape of my lower and upper lips, his tongue slipped inside and tasted me once, then again. Slowly, velvet soft.

Kalyll pulled away, inhaling sharply.

His eyes were entirely black, faint dark veins pulsing around them. “I need… to stop,” he said haltingly. “I feel—”

“Don’t you dare,” I replied recklessly.

That was definitely the right thing to say because he whirled me, pushed me inside a vacant stall, and pressed my back against the wall. He kissed me again, the hand at my neck tangling in my hair. My nipples pebbled as desire electrified me. Arousal ran slick in my panties, and my core ached for the attention it hadn’t received in quite some time.

Kalyll moaned and pressed the length of his body flush against mine. I nearly came at the feel of his erection against my stomach. It was considerable in size and very firm. I wanted to reach down and stroke him, but some instinct of self-preservation stopped me. I sensed that this wildness in him wasn’t something to trifle with.

My hands explored his chest, ridges upon ridges of perfect muscle. My right hand climbed to his neck, and I ran my fingers along the edge of his sharp jaw. His shoulder-length hair brushed the back of my hand, feeling like silk.

His lips abandoned mine and trailed kisses to my collarbone, then up to my earlobe. “I want to fuck you,” he said, his language sending a thrill of surprise and excitement through me.

“Such foul language from a prince,” I managed between ragged breaths.

“I will have you,” he promised me, “but not here.” He pulled away with some difficulty, and I nearly whimpered in protest.

The darkness around his eyes receded. “I can feel the beast at the fringes,” he said. “Though I shouldn’t, not at this hour. What is this you do to me?”

I shook my head at a loss. “Have you… been with someone since it started?”

“I have.”

His admission was plain, a fact, something that had happened before I even met him, and yet a pang of jealousy hit me. I pushed the irrational feeling away.

“And you didn’t feel the beast then.”

“I did not, but at the risk of saying too much, it’s never felt this good.”

Oh, he was a charmer, all right.

“It is the truth,” he assured me when he noticed my skeptic frown. Suddenly, his head turned to one side. “They’re coming back.” He gestured toward the stall’s exit. “After you.”

I would be lying if I didn’t say that, at that moment, I wanted the entire Fae realm to disappear so Kalyll and I could have a roll in the hay. Literally. Still, Logical Dani knew it was better this way. She was waving a huge red flag, warning me that whatever this was, it couldn’t end well for me.

A roll in the hay with someone who makes you feel this way will ruin you forever, that level-headed, party pooper said. You’ll keep your panties on and your hands to yourself if you know what’s good for you.

I couldn’t really argue with this logic. It had a lot of merits, but no matter how loudly Logical Dani laid out her case, she also knew the meaning of the wordinevitable.

CHAPTER 27

“Idon’twanttostay here,” Valeriana begged, clinging to my leg.

I looked up at Jeondar, scrunching up my face in question. This was what I’d been afraid of. I didn’t want her to have to be forced to stay. I wanted her towantto stay.

We were in the large dining room, where we’d all congregated to say our goodbyes. Everyone in our group was there, and also the king and queen.

Jeondar glanced around, looking at a loss. “They’re supposed to…”

A servant rushed through the door, accompanied by a tall woman, who was nearly Kalyll’s height. She was dressed in the same fashion as Valeriana and had green skin, though her hair and eyes were brown.

“Prince Jeondar,” the servant said. “Rosetta of Chel Grove is here to see you.”

“Thank Esthar,” Jeondar said under his breath, then walked ahead to greet the newcomer.
