She beams at me. “You did an amazing job.” Her fingers glide along the paint as she turns and looks at the swing hanging from the ceiling and she giggles. She pulls on the chain to test the weight and laughs again. “This, I would definitely want in my nest.”
“Noted,” Cameron says, laughing as he slides up against the pillows.
“It smells like you two in here,” she says, not in an accusatory tone but more of a whimsical one. She walks over to the bed and climbs up next to Cameron. “You’re sure you’re okay with me being in here?” The way she’s always checking in on Cameron makes me adore her even more. Cameron is special and needs as many people looking out for him as possible. He’s terrible at expressing his emotions and her direct questions seem to help.
Cameron smiles at her. “No, I don’t mind. I like you here.” She smirks back. She doesn’t touch but clutches a pillow close to her face and inhales.
“Well, I um… kinda left everything I was going to buy at the grocery store.”
“I’ll order something. What would you like?”
“This nest is kinda making me want Ruby’s,” Kelsey says, and Cameron moans next to her. She has no idea that was his favorite, but the fact that she requested it makes me smile.
“I already know Cameron’s favorite. What would you like?”
“The BBQ jerk chicken and the Johnny Cakes, please.”
“Oh, fuck, get two orders of Johnny Cakes,” Cameron says next to her. It seems like I can please them both with food, so at least I know I’m doing that correctly.
“Okay, I need to get some things done with work and then I’ll be right back. Are you two fine?”
“We’re good,” Kelsey sighs dreamily and lies down further against the soft pillow.
Cameron gives me a smile and I watch as he inches closer to her. I can’t help the grin that takes over my face. I turn on my heel, leaving the room and giving them some time together. My sincerest hope is that they will bond over both being Omegas and help each other. I want them both so badly, I’ll do whatever it takes to make this work. Even expanding my mind to being open to Emmett and his Alpha.
My phone beeps with a notification, and I see that it’s Smith. Even though Kelsey and I haven’t defined anything, I know I need to be upfront with him about what is going on.
“Hey, Smith,” I say.
“I’m not sure this is going to work out,” he says.
I sigh and sit down on the couch, tapping my finger against my thigh. “Why not?”
“I can already tell Kelsey is not okay. I can just feel it. How can I be halfway across the country looking after another Omega, when my sister is at home suffering?”
I roll my eyes. He’s so fucking dramatic sometimes. I can tell he’s trying to find a reason to come home, but I won’t put up with that shit. He needs this job and Kelsey needs time to find herself without him breathing down her neck. “She’s not suffering.”
“How do you know?”
“She’s currently talking to Cameron in his nest. I’m taking care of her.” He scoffs on the other line but doesn’t reply right away. “Unless there is another reason you can’t take the position?”
“No, it will be fine. I’ll figure it out. As far as Kelsey goes, I know I need to rein it in a little.”
“Yeah, you do.”
“What’s going on between you two?” he asks.
“Not sure yet, but when I do know, you will be the first person I tell.”
“Just make sure she’s okay. I would give you a threatening talk, but honestly, I think you’re the type of person she needs in her life right now.”
I can’t help but to smile over the phone. Smith is not one to give out compliments.
“I would never hurt her.”
“I know you wouldn’t. I’ll figure out this job. I’ll make it work.”
“Call me if you need anything else,” I say before hanging up and then quickly pulling up the number to Ruby’s and placing our order.
