One Year Later
“You ready to go?” I ask him as I carry the presents to the car and put them in the boot.
“Ready when you are,” he says as he walks out of the house, looking like every woman’s wet dream—something he does quite a lot. He’s wearing a light blue suit, a crisp white shirt, and black dress shoes. His collar has been left open, just how I like it, and his hair is slightly pushed to one side. So handsome.
“You’re swooning again, Mrs Carter,” he says, but I fail to give a damn. I can swoon over my husband all I like. “And may I say,” he begins as he takes me in his arms and places a kiss on my lips. “That you look fucking beautiful.”
“You may, and thank you,” I say back, kissing him again before pulling away and getting into the car. “Now, we’ve got a long trip, so let’s get going.”
“Yes, boss,” he says before he goes back to make sure the house is locked up and then joins me in the car for the two-hour trip to visit my gran.
We moved away nine months ago, finding our dream cottage and moving our lives to a different place. I had to leave, and luckily, Caleb didn’t have anything to tie him down to a place where our nightmares came true. And Anthony went above and beyond for Caleb and me, as he set up a new branch in the next town over from where we live, and while Caleb was given the reins to run it, I still work on the marketing floor, still doing ads and loving that it’s a small and friendly environment where I’ve made some good friends and get to work alongside my husband every day.
Since we moved, we’ve had nothing but good memories, and I know we have a lot more to come as I cradle the small baby bump that hides beneath my navy-blue dress. We’re going back to Gran’s for a baby gender reveal, but it’s really for everyone else who wanted to make a fuss, because Caleb and I already know we’re having a boy.
And I know that he’s going to grow up to be just like his dad. Strong, protective, loyal and handsome. And Caleb will get to enjoy being the father he always wanted to be.
